Do you want to help create trust and safety in Denmark's Prisons

Denmark's Prisons are facing the implementation of an extensive criminal justice reform, where crime prevention, including employment, plays a central role in the work to reduce recidivism.

As part of the reform, cooperation with private companies must be strengthened to attract more tasks and ensure sufficient job opportunities. In addition, there shall be strengthened on-the-job training for inmates with social challenges.

A meaningful job in employment

As a work foreman you will be a central part of Denmark's Prisons' work to prevent crime and help inmates transition to a life in the labor market after serving their sentence. You will guide, support and motivate the inmates in their employment – and use your hands and your professional skills to give the inmates new competencies.

Who are you? You can be a fully trained work foreman, or wish to start as a work foreman apprentice.

The most important is that

• You have a relevant craft/professional education such as a carpenter, smith, painter, gardener or similar. You are also able to combine your craft skills with a pedagogical approach.
• You have experience with training or instruction, ideally of people with different backgrounds.
• You have strong relational competences and can engage in many different collaborative relations, including across other professional groups in the organization and in external collaborations with private companies and industry networks.
• You can remain calm and maintain overview in tense situations and meet the inmates professionally with clear and respectful communication.

If you are not already a work foreman… Then you will become one with us! As a work foreman apprentice you are employed as a civil servant on probation, and after two years you are permanently employed as a civil servant in the state. The training lasts two years, where both the theoretical and practical parts take place in the prison and at the school in Møgelkær. Who are we?

Nr. Snede Prison consists of an open section with a special focus on vulnerable clients, and a closed section where there is a department with community, a restricted community section with punishment and isolation beds as well as a visitation department. The prison can receive 178 detainees. There are various workshops attached to the prison including assembly, woodworking, furniture production, building maintenance and green trades.

Your primary tasks will be

• Employment of inmates with production, including supervision, training, motivation, support and development of inmates to enable them to join a workplace.
• Planning, leading and quality-assuring the production in the workshop, including adapting production tasks to the workshop's framework and the inmate target group.
• Identifying and contacting relevant private companies and presenting opportunities for production collaboration and entering into agreements on concrete production tasks, including quality, delivery reliability, etc.
• Workplace training focusing on responsibility, learning and work discipline, as well as training of inmates in daily living (ADL) based on each individual's prerequisites and possibilities.
• Documenting competencies and progression among inmates.
• Acting as part of the security in the prison in close cooperation with prison guards and management.

Salary and terms of employment

The position is 37 hours per week. Start date

o For apprentices: January 1, 2027

o For fully trained work foremen: by agreement (ongoing appointments)

Employment and remuneration are governed by the Civil Service Act and the applicable agreement on the new salary system for civil servants in the Prison and Probation Service under the Danish Prison Officers' Association in Denmark's bargaining area between the Directorate of Prisons and the Danish Prison Officers' Association and any local agreements entering into this.

It is a condition of employment that, in connection with the interview, you consent to Denmark's Prisons obtaining and evaluating information about you from the Central Criminal Register.

The area of employment is the Ministry of Justice with affiliated institutions.
