About the job

Do you want to help create safety and stability for children and young people – when they need it most?

Børne- og Ungdomscenter Mølholmhus / KFUM's Social Work is seeking a committed and pedagogically strong deputy for the newly established Mølholmhus in Vejle.

Mølholmhus is a new children's and youth home with room for 14 children and young people aged 2-17. Here, children and young people should be able to find safety, care and stability during a difficult period of their lives, while good conditions are created for the child’s or the young person’s further life and next steps.

We are hiring both a principal and a deputy

Mølholmhus is brand new, and therefore we are advertising the principal and deputy positions at the same time.

We see it as a great strength that the two leaders can from the outset find each other as a good duo and together help give Mølholmhus life, direction and a strong professional culture.

As deputy you will therefore not only be part of an already established leadership. You will have the opportunity, together with the principal, to build Mølholmhus from the beginning – both as a home for the children and as a workplace for the staff.

We are looking for two leaders who can complement each other, challenge each other constructively and stand together on the direction. Therefore we will also consider the interaction between the two roles when recruiting.

A job where you must be able to create safety – and let go again

At Mølholmhus you will get close to children and young people during a period when their lives are often characterised by unrest, insecurity and many changes.

A child may come to the house at very short notice. It may be the first time the child has to live outside the family, or it may be after several previous placements and ruptures in relationships. Regardless of the starting point, the task is the same:

We must quickly create a everyday life where the child can feel safe, seen and looked after.

It requires adults who can establish relationships quickly, be clear and caring, and at the same time maintain calm when the child responds to everything that has happened.

But the work at Mølholmhus is also about being able to let go again.

The children and young people live with us temporarily. Therefore you must be able to wholeheartedly engage in the relationship and at the same time know that your task is not to create a permanent home, but to be an important and stable adult for a defined period and help the child move on well.

It requires professionalism, flexibility and emotional resilience.

About the position

As deputy you will be an important part of both the pedagogical everyday life and the management of Mølholmhus.

You will have most of your hours in fixed shifts together with the other pedagogues in a 6-week rotation. Here you are close to the children and the young people and part of the daily life that must create stability and predictability – also when a new child has just moved in.

Typically there will be one weekend shift every third week.

Because we are a temporary offering, change is a natural part of everyday life. New children and young people come in, others move on, and the staff group must constantly be able to create coherence around different children with different needs.

That means you must be able to thrive in a daily life where not everything can be planned far in advance.

You must be able to welcome a new child, create an overview, support the staff and help make everyday life function – while maintaining the professional direction.

At the same time you must be mindful that the stay has a purpose and a end. Observations, documentation and professional assessments are therefore an important part of the job, just as it is part of the task to contribute to the child having a good transition to the next place.

A close sparring partner for the principal

As deputy you will be the principal’s closest sparring partner.

You will work closely together on day-to-day operations, the pedagogical quality, the staff and the development of Mølholmhus.

You will be part of daily practice and at the same time have an eye for the house as a whole. You must be able to support the staff, engage in professional discussions, create an overview and help ensure that the children meet a common and qualified pedagogical approach.

When the principal is not present, you are the deputy and decision-maker. You must be able to make decisions, set a direction and ensure that both children, young people and staff experience safety and clarity.

You therefore get a role where you must be able to be close to the children, close to the staff and close to the management.

Your main tasks

You participate in the daily pedagogical practice and can step in as leader when the principal is away. You must, among other things:

  • welcome new children and young people and help create a safe transition to life at Mølholmhus
  • be a professional sparring partner for the staff
  • participate in managerial tasks together with the principal
  • support a common pedagogical practice and high professional quality
  • contribute to observation, documentation and preparation of status reports
  • ensure quality and coherence in the written documentation
  • contribute to the professional clarification of the child’s needs and next steps
  • collaborate with parents and networks around the child or young person
  • collaborate with authorities, school, kindergarten and other relevant partners
  • contribute to a good and safe transition when the child or young person moves on
  • help to ensure structure and overview in a daily life where children and young people come and go

We imagine that you

Are educated as a pedagog (social educator) and have experience with or a particular interest in working with children and young people who need extra care, structure and relational support.

You preferably have experience with children and young people who have consequences of neglect, trauma or other challenging life experiences – and very much from work with acute placements.

You can build good relationships while being clear and professional. You understand that children and young people can react differently to the same situations, and you can remain calm and curious, even when daily life becomes challenging.

You work systematically and can translate your observations into professional documentation. You see documentation as an important tool to understand the child and qualify the further effort.

You thrive in collaboration and can communicate respectfully and clearly with both children, young people, parents, authorities, school, kindergarten and other partners.

You must be able to thrive with the temporary

It is important to us that you can see yourself in the particular way of working that a temporary offering is.

You must be able to find meaning in working with children and young people where the relationship often has to be established quickly, and where you from the start know that the stay is temporary.

You know that the length of the relationship does not determine how meaningful it is.

You can wholeheartedly engage in a child, even though you know the stay may last only a few months. You can be curious about the child’s history, build trust and be a stable adult – without losing sight of the fact that your task also is to help the child move on.

It is an advantage if you also have experience with

  • shift planning
  • medication management
  • status reports and other professional documentation
  • inter-professional and cross-disciplinary collaboration
  • working with children and young people with complex needs.

However, the most important thing is not that you can tick off everything.

We are looking for a colleague who has professionalism, engagement and a willingness to take responsibility – and who wants to help shape Mølholmhus together with us.

You will become part of something new

Mølholmhus is under development. This means you will have the opportunity to help set the direction for both the culture, the pedagogical practice and everyday life in the house.

Together with the principal and the other staff, you will help create a shared professional foundation and a culture characterized by decency, presence, reflection and responsibility.
