About the job
Can you maintain clinical overview when the pace increases – and at the same time meet the child at eye level?
With us, a successful blood test is not necessarily the one taken the fastest. It is the one where the child feels seen, the family feels safe, and the treatment succeeds with the least possible fear.
We are seeking an experienced nurse who wants to bring their professional skills into an acute and ever-changing daily life – and who at the same time shares our view of the relationship as an important part of good nursing.
Welcome to the Pediatric and Adolescent Reception
We are part of the Department of Children and Young People at Herlev Hospital – one of the country’s largest pediatric departments.
We receive children and young people from 0–17 years with everything from minor acute issues to serious and critical illness. It requires clinical insight, prioritization ability and the ability to quickly adapt when the situation changes.
But high nursing professionalism is not the only thing we have.
We work from Fundamentals of Care and focus on the relationship with the child and family. And we work purposefully with play as a health professional competence.
Sometimes a soap bubble, a teddy bear or a silly sound is what makes it possible to insert a PV catheter, perform an examination or create calm in a situation that otherwise feels overwhelming for the child.
With us, play is not a break from nursing – it is part of it.
We are looking for you who can bring something in – and still want to learn
You are a trained nurse and have solid clinical experience. It could be from pediatrics, an emergency department, intensive care, anesthesia or another area where you have learned to observe, prioritize and act when the patient’s condition changes.
We hope that you
- have a strong clinical eye and thrive with acute and complex patient journeys
- can maintain an overview and prioritize when several things happen at the same time
- want to bring your experience into play and contribute to professional sparring in everyday life
- see the child and family as active participants in the process
- are curious about the playful approach – you do not need to be an expert, but you should be keen to try
- contribute to a work community where we ask, reflect and help each other.
We do not expect that you know everything about pediatrics from day one. Instead, we expect you to come with a professional ballast that you want to use and build on.
What will you get with us?
You will have a daily life with high professional complexity and great variation – and opportunities to develop in acute pediatric nursing.
We ensure a structured introduction, an onboarding mentor and a buddy system, so you get a good entry into both the professionalism and the community.
You will become part of a department with experienced and newer colleagues, high professional ambition, humor and a desire to develop our nursing. We believe we become more skilled when we share our experiences, are curious about each other’s practice and dare to try new paths.
Salary and employment conditions
We are seeking a nurse for a permanent position at 32 hours per week, with day, evening and night shifts and weekends every 3 weeks. There is room for discussion about hours.

If you have questions, you are very welcome to contact Chief Nurse Minna Birk Pedersen at phone 38 68 99 71.
You are also welcome to stop by. We have coffee ready – and we are happy to show you the department you might become a part of.
Employment start is 1 January 2027 or by agreement.
We follow the applicable collective agreement for non-management staff in the Health Cartel’s area, concluded between Health Cartel’s partners, including the Danish Nurses Organization and the Regional Pay and Tariff Board.
In accordance with legal requirements, if there is eventual employment in the Pediatric and Adolescent Department, a clean child certificate must be shown. Furthermore, references will be sought from potential candidates for the position by agreement.
