Head of Department for a project-based public school in Varde

As our current department head has been offered an attractive position, we are looking for a new department head for our middle school. As department head, you can look forward to the role as the nearest leader for the skilled pedagogical staff in the middle years. In addition, you will have a number of administrative tasks where you can use your skills in structure, overview, and your flair for finance.

Frelloskolen is a newly built school that opened its doors on the first school day in August 2021. Frelloskolen is located in the town of Varde, and with our 840 pupils and around 90 staff we are the largest school in Varde Municipality.

Each year we work with 4 project runs lasting 6–8 weeks. To support us in developing as a project-based school, we have entered into an agreement with the KATA Foundation. We are seeking a competent department head who both has a strong focus on personnel management and on strengthening the good communities. A leader who sees it as their main task to strengthen staff work to boost students’ engagement. It is also crucial that you can see the value in us as a LEAPS-school working in a practice-oriented and project-based manner.

Your tasks will include, among other things

• Participation in team and department meetings in the middle years
• Holding of performance development interviews with staff in the middle years
• Internal budget planning, budget follow-up
• Substitute phone and substitute planning
• Manage teachers' working hours and tasks in TRIO and actively participate in subject distribution

About the leadership team

The leadership team consists, in addition to you, of the school principal, the deputy principal, and the primary-school/after-school care (SFO) leader. We work in a team-based manner with different competences and areas of responsibility. Frelloskolen’s management and staff have a close and trusting collaboration, where we work in professional learning communities at all levels. We have therefore designed the organisation so that the leadership team, on equal terms with the school year teams, works in a joint office.

Salary and employment

The position is a full-time role with full leadership time. Start date is expected 1 December 2026. Salary and terms of employment are according to agreement between Varde Municipality and the Association of School Leaders.
