About the job
Head of Department for the Special Classes
The School at Rønnebær Allé – Helsingør Municipality's special school
Are you passionate about creating the best development, well-being and learning opportunities for children with autism, ADHD and similar challenges? Do you have experience with the special education field, and are you motivated by being an approachable leader close to both students, staff and practice? Then you may be our new Head of Department for the Special Classes at The School at Rønnebær Allé.
About the Special Classes
The special classes offer safe and structured learning environments for children with autism, ADHD and similar challenges, where academic development, well-being and opportunities for participation are in focus.
The target group is children who for a period need something special in their school day. It may be children who need help to find calm, gain overview or be part of the community. The students typically have diagnoses in the autism or ADHD area and benefit from clear boundaries, structure and predictability in everyday life.
Teaching takes place in small classes with fixed and recognizable frameworks. We work with structure, visual support systems, clear guidance and manageable learning pathways that support both academic development and social skills.
We are focused on creating participation opportunities for all students and on supporting their well-being, learning and development through strong relationships and close collaboration between school and home.
Who are you?
You are an engaged and relationship-driven leader who is motivated to create the best possible conditions for children with special needs. You have understanding of – or a strong interest in – the special education work with children with autism, ADHD and similar challenges.
You believe that the best solutions are created in close collaboration with staff, parents and multidisciplinary partners.
You are visible in everyday life and find it natural to be close to practice. You are curious about what happens in teaching and in the after-school offerings, and you can together with the staff investigate, develop and qualify the pedagogical practice. You can create direction and following, while being clear and decisive when the situation requires it.
We envision that you
- Have leadership experience and preferably experience from the specialized children and youth sector.
- Have knowledge of or interest in children with autism, ADHD and similar developmental challenges.
- Understand the importance of structure, predictability, relationships and clear learning environments.
- Can support staff in understanding children's behavior and needs and translate this knowledge into pedagogical practice.
- Have experience with interprofessional collaboration and see the value in different professional disciplines around the child.
- Can create structure, overview and direction in a complex daily life.
- Focus on both students' well-being, development and learning as well as the staff's work environment and professional development.
- Are strong in collaboration with parents and able to build trusting relationships.
- Have experience with or interest in development and change processes.
- Can balance a hands-on leadership style with secure operations and administration.
Your tasks
As Head of Department you will become a central part of the management around the special classes. You contribute to both daily operations, the professional development and the ongoing development of the area in close collaboration with the school principal and the rest of the school's leadership team.

- Support and further development of the special educational practice and the department's professional direction.

- Collaboration with parents on students' well-being, development and learning.

- Contribute to the development of strong learning communities and good working environments for both students and staff.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of The School at Rønnebær Allé as Helsingør Municipality's comprehensive special school.
- Participation in relevant management forums and close collaboration with the school principal and the school's other leadership team on the school's strategic and pedagogical development.
