About the job

The psychiatry department is on the agenda...

We are a psychiatric inpatient ward, part of a broad professional environment at a university hospital. We want to work with Recovery in the fullest sense of the word, where we place the patients' voices high and strive for a high degree of involvement in their own treatment.

We prioritise the work environment, safety and security in daily life. We work across disciplines based on each staff member's competencies and resources, and we look forward to seeing how you can contribute to that collaboration.

We can offer a 28/37 hour position as a nurse or as a social- and health care assistant in a fixed night shift with the possibility of 7/7.

We are also starting to look at the possibility of shorter or longer shifts, so your working hours can be adapted to you rather than you adapting to the hours.

You will attend mandatory courses where you will gain insight into the theoretical framework we work under, as well as insight into our approach to patient care.

There will also be opportunities after a couple of years to take the Specialist Training in Psychiatry for nurses or the KUA for social- and health care assistants.

Broad patient population

The Ward Ø1, 1st floor, receives and treats patients aged 18-75. We have room for a total of 14 patients and treat, among others, patients with psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, psychoses, severe depressions, bipolar disorders, as well as severe personality disorders.

Coherence and perspective for the patient

You work well at night but also think cross-disciplinarily and, not least, in nursing terms. The patient's illness continues even at night, so you must help create coherence in the patient’s care pathway and be an active participant in the effort to reduce coercion in psychiatry and to work with Safewards, patient plans with high-quality content and activities.

Patients encounter an environment where hope, mastery and opportunities are in focus. Your actions are based on the patients' individual needs and guided by coordinated and professionally grounded considerations - not just by rigid rules.

We work on developing Recovery-oriented psychiatry with user involvement at all levels and coherence in all patient pathways.

Together on activities

The daily morning meeting is our pivot. Here we plan the day's activities together with the patients. We discuss common concerns and provide information. Activities can include exercise, creative activities, choir, psychoeducation or social environmental therapy, and it can take place outdoors. We strive as much as possible to use our beautiful green surroundings, with walks to the fjord and the rich local area.

Your and our professionalism

We are looking for night shifts, so we would like you to have experience from psychiatry, but if you are passionate about it, we believe we can figure it out together. You should be willing to talk and be there for the patients even at night and acknowledge that it can still be difficult if you have a mental health leadership. Your attitude towards working with this patient group is important and crucial for you to develop a high level of professionalism and a desire to learn and provide skilled nursing to people with mental illness.

We are a ward with many highly skilled staff and a willingness to teach, so there is room for you even if you do not have much experience but are passionate about the patient group. We offer mentorship and onboarding.

This means that even before you start, you will be assigned a mentor who will ensure you are well guided through the first period of your employment, with scheduled conversations. The mentor acts as your sparring partner and helps you integrate into the culture of the ward, understand and use our rules and frameworks, become part of relevant networks, and apply existing and add new competencies.

You will be offered introductory courses and the opportunity to acquire new competencies via our learning lab, so you have a solid foundation to start from.

You can expect an introductory period where you do not care for patients on your own, but follow along with an experienced colleague. A large part of the staff group has broad psychiatric experience and works daily with great flexibility and a willingness to find solutions – also to new challenges. Skill development, collaboration and a good work environment are prerequisites for being able to work here. In addition to a good group of colleagues, you will also have accessible leadership who sees you and your potential.
