About the job

Are you pursuing a master's degree in philosophy and science studies at Roskilde University – and would you like to make a difference for another student? Then it might be you we are looking for.

At Olivia Danmark we are currently seeking a master's student who is at least on the 2nd semester of their master's program and who would like to make a positive difference for a fellow student in a paid student job where you help a fellow student create a good and safe study everyday life.

At the same time, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills in communication, relationship work, dissemination and guidance – skills you can take with you into your studies and working life.

About Olivia Danmark

At Olivia Danmark we provide specialized pedagogical support (SPS) to students with psychological and/or neurological functional impairments at a wide range of the country’s higher education institutions.

We place a high value on professional integrity, continuous quality assurance and a personal and dedicated approach that creates security.

Our goal is to create a richer life for more students through support that makes a difference.

In this context we continuously seek study mentors who want to contribute to the SPS work at Roskilde University.

Your role as a study mentor

As a study mentor you will be attached to a student who needs support to create structure, overview and good frameworks around their study everyday life.

You will not be a teacher or academic expert. Your most important task is to be a stable and supportive sparring partner who can share your own university life experiences and help the student find study-life strategies that work for them specifically.

Your experience with independent academic reading, project work and collaboration can be valuable in the role. It’s not about having all the answers, but about listening, asking good questions and helping the student master their studies based on their needs.

The concrete needs and focus areas will be clarified at a startup meeting with you and the student.

Your role may include, among other things, helping the student to

  • find good strategies for reading, note-taking and time management
  • create structure and prioritize the curriculum, for example with the help of reading plans
  • plan project work and create an overview of deadlines and sub-tasks
  • handle changes in teaching, projects and syllabus
  • understand and navigate the requirements and expectations of the education
  • establish contact with teachers, supervisors and fellow students
  • establish study groups and participate in group work
  • navigate the social life and collaborative situations at the university
  • prepare for exams and handle practical aspects of exam registration
  • find around in the education’s facilities, including IT and library facilities.

Who are you?

In order to become a study mentor it is a requirement that you

  • are enrolled in the master's program in philosophy and science studies at Roskilde University and have completed at least 1st semester
  • participate in an intro workshop at Olivia Danmark no later than six months after your employment.

We also imagine that you

  • have a good understanding of the study everyday life at Roskilde University
  • want to share your experiences with a fellow student
  • are good at listening, communicating and conveying in an understandable way
  • are structured and good at creating an overview
  • are patient, approachable and curious about other people's perspectives

You do not need to have experience with SPS or particular knowledge of psychological and/or neurological disabilities. The most important thing is that you want to support a fellow student and are open to learning how you can best make a difference.

At Olivia Danmark we offer

As a study mentor at Olivia Danmark you get

  • a meaningful student job where you make a concrete difference for another student
  • opportunity to develop your skills in communication, dissemination, relationship work and guidance
  • practical experience in supporting people with different needs and prerequisites
  • experience translating your own study experiences into concrete strategies that help others
  • flexibility in planning your working hours so that it fits with your studies
  • a varying number of hours distributed over the semester – as a starting point each student has an allocation of 20 hours per semester
  • a contact person at Olivia Danmark and the possibility of ongoing upskilling through supervision and workshops
  • salary in accordance with the FOA collective agreement.
  • Compensation for the hours you actually work with the student.

Your support in collaboration with Olivia Danmark

The student you mentor also receives support from an SPS advisor who helps manage cognitive, emotional and social challenges related to the study.

The SPS advisor will be your and the student’s primary contact in the support process. You are therefore not alone with the task, and we do not expect you to have special knowledge about disabilities.

Is it you?

Would you like to use your university experiences to help a fellow student gain more structure, overview and benefit from their study everyday life? Then we would love to hear from you.

Send your application and CV today. We conduct interviews on an ongoing basis and hire when we have found the right candidates.
