About the job
Apply
Would you develop new ways in which guests can encounter art through creativity and participation?
As part of ARoS' Vision 2033, we are working to strengthen the museum's relationship with the audience and create relevant and engaging encounters with art. In the coming years we will, among other things, place even more focus on creativity and participation.
Our ambition is to establish a permanent creative workshop at ARoS and develop creative formats for children, young people, adults and schools. Therefore we are seeking a dissemination developer with particular responsibility for formats where guests have the opportunity to create themselves - for example in creative spaces in the exhibitions, through activities in an open workshop or in workshops and longer programmes where guests work exploratively and creatively with different materials and modes of expression.
Like the other dissemination developers, you will also be part of the unified dissemination task at ARoS, Public Engagement and you will develop and realise dissemination for the museum's exhibitions. The position includes concept development, project management, operations and concrete delivery. You must therefore both want to develop new formats and be willing to stand on the floor yourself when a workshop, talk or other activity is carried out.
Job profile
Public Engagement consists of five dissemination developers, a student assistant and about 20 dissemination assistants. The dissemination developers each have their own areas of responsibility, and at the same time solve a number of common dissemination tasks across the museum's exhibitions and programme.
You join the team at a time when the department is under development, and therefore you will have the opportunity to influence both the pilot project and the long-term development of creative and participatory formats at ARoS.
Your tasks will include
- Dissemination project leader for 1–2 special exhibitions per year in collaboration with colleagues across the museum. You will be responsible for developing and realising the relevant dissemination for the specific exhibition. It could be talks, debates, workshops, performances or other investigative or experimental formats that bring art, audiences and current perspectives into play. You also contribute to colleagues' project management tasks on other special exhibitions.
- Project leader on a pilot project for a creative workshop with start in late 2026, including development of concept, content and activities as well as compiling experiences that can qualify the further development of the area and the ambition of a permanent creative workshop at ARoS.
- Development of open creative activities and workshops for children, families, young people and adults - both as standalone offerings and in relation to the museum's exhibitions. It could also be longer creative formats, for example art school or other programmes, where guests have the opportunity to work more continuously and deeply with creative practice.
- Planning, coordination and practical execution of activities and events. You should want to be present yourself and take responsibility in connection with delivering talks, workshops or other public activities.
Your profile
You should have a broad professional dissemination toolbox and be able to see different possibilities to create relevant encounters between art and the public. You should be able to think conceptually and ambitiously, but at the same time have an eye for everything that needs to function when we, together with colleagues with different professional backgrounds, have an entire house to make work optimally.
We imagine that you have a relevant higher education in, for example, art history, aesthetics and culture, museology, design, art, cultural mediation or a related field. We expect you to have at least three years of professional experience and concrete experience in developing creative or participation-based formats at an art or cultural institution.
You may have experience from your own creative or artistic practice, but it is not a prerequisite. The crucial thing is that you have a strong understanding of creative processes and how to create frameworks that give others the desire and courage to explore, experiment and create.
We also place emphasis on the following
- have documented experience in developing creative activities, workshops or other participation-based formats where guests themselves have the opportunity to create and work with their hands
- are structured and can handle the coordination and practical tasks that come with turning ideas into reality
- can translate artistic and dissemination-related ideas into strong and accessible audience experiences
- have documented experience in working strategically with different target groups and developing formats that work for both children, young people and adults
- are a team player who sees good collaboration - within the department, across the museum and with external partners - as essential to our success.
We offer
You get a versatile position where you will both have a special responsibility to develop a new area at ARoS and become part of the broader dissemination task around the museum's exhibitions and programme. You will have the opportunity to develop new ideas, bring them to life and meet the visitors when dissemination takes place.
You will become part of a professionally strong and trusted team with four other permanent colleagues. You will have engaged and competent colleagues who are focused on developing ARoS and together creating world-class experiences.
Your workplace is in the heart of Aarhus with, among others, the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Musikhuset, Aarhus Festival, Børnekulturhuset, Bora Bora, Godsbanen and The Old Town as close neighbors and good partners.
The position is a full-time role at 37 hours per week. You report to the Head of Public Engagement, Birgitte Folmann.
Salary and terms follow the agreement between the State and the Danish Association of Masters. Starting salary for a master's degree holder is 35,732 DKK per month including pension. Depending on your relevant professional experience and seniority, the salary according to the base placement could be up to 43,541 DKK per month including pension.
In addition, a functional allowance of 1,922 DKK per month including pension for occasional work in evenings and holiday periods related to events in Public Engagement.
If you have further questions, you are welcome to send an email to the Head of Department Birgitte Folmann at [email protected], and she will get back to you.
The process
Application deadline to submit CV and a motivated application is Sunday 18 October 2026.
1st interview will be held on 22 October (we invite to interview first on 20 October), and we expect to select about five candidates for the first interview.
If we deem it necessary, we will hold a 2nd interview on 27 October between 8 and 11.
We aim to fill the position by 1 December.
We look forward to hearing from you - and we look forward to reading your application and your CV.
