About the job
We are looking for a colleague who can join our team of skilled teachers in the building constructor education. You must have a construction-related background and be eager to both teach, supervise and participate in research and development projects.
Your tasks
You are as a person broadly professionally oriented and able to take on teaching and development tasks within one or more of the following topics:
- Sustainability (both from a holistic perspective and within the technical part)
- Legislation (both general construction law and rules within sustainability)
- Design within both new build and renovation (it is expected that you can design in Revit or similar software)
In addition to teaching, you will also serve as supervisor on the program's study, internship and examination projects. Development and research projects are also part of our daily life. You must therefore be prepared for a part of your working time to be spent on project work.
Your professional profile
We expect you to have a relevant professional education, for example as a building constructor, building engineer or architect. You may also have a minimum of 5 years of experience within different types of construction.
You have experience with designing various types of projects and are not afraid to adapt and learn new things. It would be a plus if you also have knowledge of MS Project, Tactplan or Sigma. However, the most important is your ability to learn new programs.
You are used to working project-oriented and you see the whole rather than parts. You are good at creating and maintaining professional relationships and you are passionate about training the builders of the future.
If you have teaching experience and a pedagogical qualification, it would be an advantage, but it is not a requirement to become part of the teaching team in the building constructor program.
As a person, you are
Good at building close relationships with both students and colleagues. You are engaged, curious, proactive and open.
Your ambitions to create optimal learning pathways mean that you participate and take initiatives for pedagogical and professional renewal. The world is changing, and so are we. Therefore, it is a natural part of your work to develop yourself for the benefit of the students and to inspire your colleagues and the local business community.
You are a team player and are prepared to cooperate with colleagues, students, industry, research and other stakeholders in our education programs.
We therefore expect you to be
- Outgoing, curious and with a good mood
- Team player – giving and receiving from the team
- Research- and development-oriented and will contribute to creating new knowledge and solutions for the industry
In the job you will focus on teaching and learning, where you will be part of an experimental study environment with students and colleagues.
As we work closely with industry, you should also be willing to help create partnerships with companies and other stakeholders in the sector.
We offer
At UCL you will have the opportunity to make a clear impact on the future construction industry by educating and inspiring the next generation of building constructors. At the same time you will become part of a professional environment with great freedom to shape teaching, projects and collaborations. The position provides good opportunities to engage in research and development activities, where new knowledge is translated into value for the education and the industry.
With us, we emphasize a good balance between work life and private life, while you have time to pursue your professional passion. As a teacher in the program you also have real influence on the development of the program content, pedagogy and professional direction in close collaboration with colleagues, students and industry.
The Building Constructor program is organized in the Department of Construction and Technology, where we are 53 employees spread across 11 technical/science-oriented education programs. We emphasize being good colleagues in a work environment with a high ceiling and a focus on high professional standards in our task solving.
You will be employed in an associate professor position. This means you must achieve lecturer qualification within the first 4 years of your employment. This process involves tasks within full-time education, research and development as well as continuing education.
If you have a bachelor’s level education, you must complete a relevant master's degree before starting the associate professor program. This means that during the first 2 years of your employment you will complete your master’s degree. Thereafter you will transition to a 4-year associate professor program.
Employment
You will be hired as of February 1, 2027, and your average weekly working time will be 37 hours.
Your primary workplace will be in Odense. Since we have study tours, conferences and other relevant activities, travel is expected for 5-15 days per year.
The appointment is made in accordance with the circular on the agreement for academics in the state or Circular on the Common Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Trade Unions and CO10 – Central Organization of 2010 (LC/CO10 common agreement), as well as the regulation on the job structure for teachers at universities of applied sciences, professional bachelor’s degree colleges and the Danish School of Media and Journalism. The position is subject to the principles of New Pay.
If you are hired as an associate professor, you will enter into an associate professor qualification process, in accordance with the Regulation on lecturer qualification, lecturer assessment and docent assessment of teachers at universities of applied sciences, professional bachelor’s degree colleges, the Danish School of Media and Journalism and certain maritime educational institutions. An associate professor program lasts a maximum of 4 years.
If you are hired as a lecturer, we would like you to be lecturer-assessed according to the 2013 job structure.
If you have lecturer assessment according to previous job structures, you can, by agreement, choose that the employment takes place under the previously centrally fixed salary and employment terms under the 2003 job structure, which among other things can influence the size of your lecturer allowance as well as the possibility of being appointed as a member of the lecturer assessment committee.
Alternatively, you can agree on renewed lecturer assessment according to the current job structure and under the rules in chapter 5 of the Regulation on lecturer qualification, lecturer assessment and docent assessment of teachers at universities of applied sciences, professional bachelor’s degree colleges, the Danish School of Media and Journalism and certain maritime educational institutions. The assessment is based on a short eight-page lecturer application concerning research and development competencies.
The application must be submitted to UCL as part of the recruitment process. The assessment is decided within 3-6 weeks by an external assessment committee appointed by UCL. In case of a negative assessment, the employment may take place under the previous job structure or as an associate professor.
UCL offers guidance in connection with preparing the application.
