About the job

The Danish Health Authority seeks oncologists for the agency's permanent panel to advise on experimental treatment for patients with life-threatening diseases.

Do you have solid oncological experience and an interest in applying your expertise for the benefit of patients with life-threatening diseases? The Danish Health Authority is seeking engaged specialists in oncology for our permanent advisory panel on experimental treatment.

About the Panel

The panel provides advisory to hospital physicians on options for experimental treatment for patients with life-threatening diseases – typically cancer – where there is no longer a standard treatment.

The work makes a concrete difference for patients in some of the most vulnerable situations, and you will have the opportunity to contribute with your professional assessment and expertise in collaboration with colleagues with high specialized knowledge.

The Panel was established in 2003 and is anchored in the Health Act § 89, subsec. 4.

In recent years we have received 20-40 requests for advice, which gives a limited workload for the individual members of the panel.

The Consultancy Task

As a member of the panel you will

  • assess the possibilities for experimental treatment in concrete cases based on material submitted by the treating hospital department
  • contribute to case processing and respond to requests typically within 14 days
  • spar with ad hoc members and qualify the formal procedures
  • participate in an annual meeting with the Danish Health Authority for all panel members.

The work is predominantly performed from home, and cases are submitted via secure email.

Your background

We are seeking specialists in oncology who

  • have substantial clinical and preferably scientific experience
  • have insight into and experience with experimental treatment
  • have a strong professional network, nationally and preferably internationally
  • are clinically active and wish to contribute their knowledge for the benefit of patients.

About the employment

You will be engaged as a consultant to the Danish Health Authority with a 1-year contract and the possibility of extension up to 2 years. Thereafter the position will be re-advertised with the possibility for existing panel members to re-apply.

The honorarium is 850 DKK per hour, and there may be support for secretarial assistance upon agreement.

Prior to engagement you must complete a conflict of interest declaration in accordance with the Danish Health Authority's guidelines. Conflict declarations for external consultants are published on the Health Authority's website to ensure full transparency.
