About the job
At the Department of Clinical Microbiology, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital, a position as a bioanalyst/laboratory technician is available for fill as of 1 January 2027 or by agreement. The position is a permanent appointment and is normed to 37 hours/week.
Sequencing of microorganisms is developing rapidly. Do you want to help ensure the quality of our sequencing analyses is at the top and contribute to the further development of our methods and analytical areas? Then this position might be something for you.
At the Department of Clinical Microbiology we perform microbiological diagnostics and provide advice in bacteriology, virology, serology, parasitology and mycology for Herlev, Gentofte, Hillerød, Helsingør and Frederikssund Hospitals as well as the primary health service within the intake area in the Capital Region (from 2027 Region ØST). The department is responsible for infection control guidance and also produces bacterial substrates and transport media.
The department has about 150 employees and a total annual number of samples of just under one million, making it one of the largest microbiological departments in Denmark. We have recently achieved accreditation according to the ISO 15189 standard - quality assurance is therefore a natural and integrated part of our daily work.
In the position, the usual expectation is on-site during weekdays, but evening and weekend shifts may occur.
We offer influence in an inspiring and developmental interdisciplinary collaboration with doctors, bioanalysts, laboratory technicians, molecular biologists, bioinformaticians, secretaries, infection control nurses and other professional groups.
In our department we value a good working environment, which is expressed through mutual trust and respect, good communication and respectful handling of the job.
“The good tone” is highly valued in the department.
In our department, competence development related to professional and personal growth is anchored in the department’s culture, and as a department we continuously work to develop ourselves according to the needs of the clients and society.
In our department we work with “My Career Path”, which helps to make your opportunities visible, while also anchoring your wishes and goals within the department’s values and objectives.
KMA is a modern workplace where we use the latest technological equipment in the laboratories, which supports high-quality analysis results and helps create a good working environment.
Work tasks
Your duties will relate to the sequencing laboratory, where we perform sequencing analyses for identification and typing of different microorganisms.
The analyses include all steps from sample reception to setup on the sequencing machine, including sample preparation, DNA/RNA purification, library preparation and setup on Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) platforms. Parts of the process are performed with robotic pipetting, and we are working towards increased automation of current and future analyses
You will become a resource person for the area. This means that in addition to your routine duties you will also need to organize work areas, document and quality-assure the analyses. In addition, you will be responsible for troubleshooting, development and project tasks in close collaboration with our molecular biologists and bioinformaticians. As part of your key role you will also need to train other staff in the workflows.
Qualifications
We expect that you
- have Danish authorization as a bioanalyst or are trained as a laboratory technician.
- have experience with molecular biology and preferably microbiology.
- have experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
- are proficient with IT and eager to learn new programs.
- work in a structured and quality-conscious manner and thrive with laboratory routines.
- are engaged, flexible and professionally skilled.
- have good collaboration skills and can also work independently with your tasks.
It is an advantage if you have
- experience with Illumina platforms, e.g. MiSeq
- experience with Oxford Nanopore Technologies, e.g. MinION or GridION
- experience with DNA extraction and library preparation
- experience with pipetting robots for setting up PCR- or NGS-workflows
