About the job

Are you a bioanalyst with experience in frozen sectioning across several organ areas and/or experience from simple, biocomplex- and complex dissection of breast specimens and/or simple and biocomplex dissection of skin, then you are the one we are looking for.

We are in full swing to assemble the Pathology Department, at Zealand University Hospital, in Køge, where we are represented by four teams. The three teams are anchored in different organ areas, and common to all teams is a strong multidisciplinary collaboration with the department's pathologists focusing on both organ types and functions.

The Department's Team Freeze is anchored in the organ areas of breast (mamma), skin and soft tissue, and the team holds all histological samples from these organ areas. The team handles freezing for all department's organ areas, secures sections for immunofluorescence examinations and receives unfixed preparations from all organ areas for the entire department.

The team will partly move to Køge at the end of September 2026, partly because the majority of the team, from the time of the move until the end of January 2028, on a rotating basis, has presence in Roskilde in a satellite function, where the team services the Breast Surgical Department and handles freezing of gynecological and urological samples.

You will be employed in Team Freeze, which currently consists of 11 employees.

The position is, as a rule, a full-time position of 37 hours without shifts and without planned weekend work. There is currently an opportunity to plan working hours in the time window between 6:30 and 16:30 with at least eight closing shifts over four weeks, including a fixed weekly day until 16:00 or until 15:30 Monday to Thursday or until 15:00 on Friday.

We offer flexible work time planning, so you, after training in relevant functions, will have the opportunity to influence your working hours within the given framework. The working time interval in Køge is still under development.

You will, in your first period with us, undergo an introductory program, which is tailored to the tasks/functions you will handle. This is to ensure that we start from the same baseline for how we work with pathology in the department's laboratories.

We are looking for a colleague who can answer yes to having some of the following professional competencies:

  • Experience with frozen section examination
  • Experience with dissection of breast specimens, preferably biocomplex dissection, but also simple and complex dissection
  • Experience in simple and biocomplex dissection of skin

Practical experience and willingness to work with some of the above tasks is a prerequisite for being considered for this position.

Other professional competencies would be a plus, but not a necessary competence

  • Experience in embedding
  • Experience in manual microtomy and/or automatic microtomy on AS-410
  • Experience in digital pathology – we scan on Hamamatzu scanners

It is a requirement that you have experience from a pathology department or practical experience from some of the mentioned tasks.

As a colleague/employee we expect that you

  • Put the patient first and contribute to high professional quality in the diagnostics
  • Are conscientious about your professional discipline and take responsibility for your work
  • Maintain an overview in busy situations
  • Are helpful, proactive and at the same time can work independently
  • Contribute actively to a strong and constructive collaboration
  • Contribute positively and take responsibility for the work community and a good working environment
  • Are open and honest

You can expect from us that we

  • Are a team with professional competences and areas of responsibility
  • Are a team with opportunities for variation in histological tasks
  • Have a high degree of independence in the work
  • Are a department with good opportunities for professional and personal development

We offer

  • An diverse job in a development-oriented department with focus on both the core task, professionalism and collaboration
  • An individually tailored introductory program with thorough training
  • A work environment characterized by shared responsibility and influence
  • Close collaboration across both professional groups and departments
  • A position without weekend shifts and – after completed training – opportunity to influence your own working time

Your tasks will be adapted to your competencies, and there will be opportunities to expand the areas of responsibility as you build new competencies.

Pathology Department's organization, profile and educational responsibility

The department serves all regional hospitals, primary care sector, private hospitals and dentists. Our core task and focus is to provide diagnoses of high professional quality in a timely manner, which forms the basis for assessment of disease development, choice of treatment and prevention.

The Pathology Department's management consists of a chief physician and a chief bioanalyst. The pathology department employs about 180 staff in total, of which about 110 are bioanalysts and laboratory technicians distributed within the department. The management of the laboratories on the department's sites is currently distributed among two senior bioanalysts and two unit leaders, one of whom currently has cross-site management.

The various professional groups in the Pathology Department work together to give patients the best possible diagnostics. We place a strong emphasis on good collaboration with a high level of service and quality, and we prioritize research, development and education. The department works with accreditation, and in 2025 the histological area was fully digitized.
