Are you passionate about special education and eager to make a difference for young people with special needs? Then we have an exciting opportunity for you.

Tårnbygårdsskolen seeks an engaged teacher for a permanent position of 37 hours per week with start on 1 November or as soon as possible. The position is in our upper grades, where you will work closely with another teacher around a group of students. It would be advantageous if you can teach mathematics.

Tårnbygårdsskolen is Tårnby Municipality's special school for pupils with extensive special educational needs. Our students have diverse and complex needs and can include autism, ADHD, anxiety, school avoidance and cognitive challenges. Some students are cognitively age-appropriate, while others have reduced cognitive functioning.

Our pedagogical approach is based on Low Arousal and a shared reflective practice. We work to understand the students' behaviour and needs and to create frameworks that prevent conflicts and give each student the best opportunities to participate, develop, and learn.

We believe in possibilities rather than limitations, and we place high emphasis on professional collaboration. With us you will therefore not be alone with the task.

You will usually teach together with a colleague, and together you plan and implement a structured and differentiated teaching that takes its starting point from the students' individual needs and prerequisites. Visual support, clear structure and flexibility are natural elements of the teaching.

In the upper grades we work on both the students' academic development and to prepare them as best as possible for life after school. Therefore relationship-building, motivation and attention to the individual student are just as important as the academic teaching.

We would like to hear from you if you

• have experience with or an interest in special education and special didactics
• are passionate about working with young people with special needs
• can plan and deliver structured and differentiated teaching
• see parental collaboration as an important part of the work
• can take responsibility for teaching in several subjects – preferably mathematics
• are reflective, calm and development-oriented
• actively contribute to team collaboration and share responsibility for the students
• communicate clearly and professionally – both verbally and in writing.

You do not need many years of experience in the special area. The most important is that you are curious about our students, eager to develop your special educational practice, and able to see opportunities, even when the task is complex.

If you are a recent graduate

In Tårnby Municipality we offer, in collaboration with DLF, Kreds 13, an introduction program for newly qualified teachers and kindergarten-class leaders. This takes place in collaboration with your manager, the union representative and the safety representative.

The first two years as a newly qualified teacher also include reduced teaching time, and at all schools there is a mentoring scheme. We take care to give you a good start to your teaching life.

Salary and terms of employment

The employment is in accordance with the applicable agreement with the Danish Teachers’ Association after negotiation.

The municipality's recruitment policy entails that references are obtained from previous and current workplaces at the time of hire. If you have been employed by Tårnby Municipality, a reference from there will always be requested. In addition, a criminal record certificate and a child-safety certificate must be presented at hire. The employment will be conditional on these being satisfactory.
