About the job
Do you have extensive knowledge of land military operations? Do you want to set the direction for a unit that makes a difference to Denmark's security? And do you have solid experience in leading specialists?
Then you are exactly who we are looking for for this position in the Danish Defence Intelligence Service (FE).
You’ll face challenges and room to develop
You will become the head of a unit tasked with analyzing and conveying knowledge about land military affairs to the Defence and FE's other clients. The unit handles current and future threats within the land military domain, and what significance these have for Denmark.
The unit is of decisive importance for Denmark's security, as its products contribute to political decision-making processes about the deployment of the Defence's force contributions as well as planning and execution of military operations.
The unit is staffed by specialists with both civilian and military backgrounds. As a leader you should value going first and creating the framework for a close and trusting collaboration, where different needs and functional conditions are taken into account.
You join the department's management team and must have the outlook oriented toward developing the unit within FE’s Situational Awareness Center. You should also – parallel with ongoing operations – be involved in identifying new and/or changed tasks. We also expect that you can formulate proposals for organizational measures that can contribute to improved task execution and optimize processes; internally within the department as well as across FE’s entire organization.
As a manager you should actively develop your employees, create the framework and conditions for retention, and implement relevant and targeted competence development.
You and your background matter
You must have a military background, and we expect that you
- Have completed Staff College or a Master in Military Studies
- Have in-depth knowledge of land military operations
- Have documented leadership experience with leadership of specialists
- Communicate clearly, concisely and precisely – in writing and orally
- Present complex issues in an understandable way for non-specialists
- Prioritize creating good relationships and good cooperation across departments
- Can engage with the top command level in the Defence and FE
- Have the ability to be a good ambassador for FE and the department, both internally and externally
It is advantageous, but not required, if you have
- Intelligence background
- Completed Operations and Command Training (OFU)
- Knowledge of FE’s organization, processes and products
- Experience with case handling at NIV I/II
- Knowledge of global power relations
Your new workplace
The Danish Defence Intelligence Service (FE) is Denmark's foreign intelligence service and works – in secret and openly – to protect Denmark and Danish interests in a changing world.
We are not alone in protecting Denmark, but we are the only authority that has been mandated to use entirely special means to uncover what other states and foreign actors are trying to keep secret. It makes sense for us to contribute to peace, safety and security for Danes, both in the analogue and the digital world, and we do this by uncovering, assessing, advising on and countering both current threats and threats under development.
We value the strength of our diversity with deep expertise and specialists, and we are a very special and operationally oriented knowledge organization that has many different tasks, but common to them all is the knowledge base that our intelligence work creates.
Your salary package depends on your qualifications
The position is filled according to protocol to the state collective agreement for academics in the state regarding officers under the Ministry of Defence. The position is placed in salary grade 5, which includes majors and navy captains.
If you are already employed in the Ministry of Defence’s Group, you will continue to be employed according to the applicable agreements between the Ministry of Defence’s Personnel Agency and the Denmark Officers' Association on pay and terms of employment for civil service employees or collectively bargained officers in the Defence.
As an employee of FE you are subject to some special terms. It is a requirement that you can obtain security clearance and maintain it throughout your employment. As in the rest of the Defence you have a duty to short-term deployments abroad.
In the position you are at all times obliged to meet the health and physical requirements set for the function – here B meaning you must be able to obtain medical clearance for service in the entire realm, all NATO countries as well as navigation in Danish and European waters and the North Atlantic.
If you are designated for INTOPS, you must indicate this in your application.
Fixed place of work in Copenhagen.
