About the job

Would you like to help set the direction for a strong department in a time when the health care system is undergoing major changes ?

We are looking for a Chief Nurse who, together with the chief physician, will lead the Department of Lung and Infectious Diseases at Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital.

We are a department with a high level of expertise, development potential and close interdisciplinary collaboration. In recent years, we have worked purposefully to develop our patient pathways and organisational structure. That work must now be consolidated and further developed in a health care system undergoing major changes, where the health reform changes the framework for how we organise and collaborate in a unified health care system.

This makes this particular leadership task both important and exciting.

Your tasks

As Chief Nurse you will share with the chief physician the overall responsibility for the department's operations, development and strategic direction.

You will form part of a close and committed duo leadership, where you together stand behind the department's development and create direction for both staff and patient pathways.

A central part of your task will be to actively contribute to the development and transformation of the health care system that follows the health reform. We are standing on the threshold of a new reality, where tasks, responsibilities and collaboration across hospital, municipalities and general practice are changing. You will help translate the overarching ambitions into concrete development of our patient pathways and organisation—and to see the opportunities in the new framework.

The department has for several years worked on many of the areas central to the transformation. Your task will thus be both to consolidate and further develop what we have already started, and to help identify where we should think differently. It requires a strong strategic perspective, courage to challenge the existing, and the ability to turn development into practice.

In addition, your tasks will include, among others

  • Ensure stable and well-functioning operations with a focus on quality, patient safety, capacity and coherence in patient pathways.
  • Set the direction for nursing professional development and support the deputy heads of nursing in both operations and development.
  • Lead the development and implementation of new patient pathways and maintain the department's strong drive for innovation.
  • Join and actively contribute to cross-hospital cooperation with municipalities and general practice.

Department of Lung and Infectious Diseases

The department provides both pulmonary and infectious disease patient pathways and has both main and regional functions. We have two wards with a total of 32 beds, including 4 intermediate beds, functioning as step-up and step-down for the most critically ill patients.

On one ward there is established a day hospital with 8 places.

The department has for several years targeted its development at new ways of organising and solving tasks. We have among other things worked on reorganising patient pathways for patients with COPD, developing the day hospital and working on the future outpatient clinic. In the pulmonary field we have reorganised patient pathways for patients with suspected lung cancer with a focus on faster and better treatment pathways.

The department is also the driving force behind a cross-hospital collaboration that makes it possible to treat patients with infections via IV treatment at home. A recently launched initiative is interdisciplinary ward rounds with infectious disease specialists and orthopedic surgeons on the orthopedic surgical ward.

Development takes place close to clinical practice. Work is done across disciplines around patient pathways, and we have a culture where operations and professional development go hand in hand.

About you

You come with leadership experience—perhaps as an experienced deputy head nurse, or from a comparable position. Experience from a pulmonary or infectious disease department is an advantage, but it is primarily your leadership competencies we are seeking.

We place emphasis on you being

  • A clear, engaged and presence-rich leader who takes initiative, sets direction and manages to establish followership.
  • A trusted, listening and collaborative leader with the ability to understand different perspectives and build strong relationships across boundaries.
  • Curious, development-oriented and has the courage to challenge existing practice and translate strategic ambitions into action.
  • Work in a structured and purposeful manner with a view to both quality, results and development – also when tasks and priorities are complex.
  • Enjoy shared leadership responsibility, contribute constructively to the management team and be able to balance own views against collective decisions.

End of course we also expect you to have a positive and constructive underlying attitude and be able to maintain an overview – even when you face resistance or difficult decisions.

The Hospital

Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital, as an acute hospital, covers the catchment area “The City”, with just over 470,000 inhabitants. We handle tasks at both the main and regional level as well as selected highly specialised areas. In 2023 the hospital entered into a partnership agreement with Bornholm Hospital. Over the next 4–5 years the construction of the New Bispebjerg Hospital will be completed, and all functions will then be consolidated on the Bispebjerg site. Establishing a new hospital and the resulting organisational and structural changes are overarching primary tasks for the coming years.

The vision of Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospitals is to be the collaborative hospital. A hospital that collaborates to give patients the best treatment and creates good framework for education, research and an attractive working life.

With the formation of the Eastern Denmark Region and the implementation of the Health Reform, the hospital's role in the integrated health care system is changing. We are an active participant in this, so that in the future we also have a strong public health system with free and equal access for all.

If you would like additional information about the position, you are welcome to contact Chief Physician Helle Frost Andreassen at tel. 40 26 08 65 or Deputy Director Kirsten Wisborg at tel. 50 90 72 15.

Salary and employment terms are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement and by agreement with the negotiating organisations.

Application deadline is 1 November 2026.

Employment interviews will be held on 13 November, and a second interview on 20 November.

Applicants invited to a second interview will be interviewed (dialogue and profile description) and must undergo a test between the two interviews.
