About the heart medical specialty at Horsens Regional Hospital
Cardiology at Horsens has primary responsibility for 233,000 citizens in the catchment area, which includes the municipalities of Horsens, Hedensted, Skanderborg and Odder. We have a comprehensive outpatient function consisting of AFLI clinic, AK/VTE clinic, heart failure clinic, and a large ECHO outpatient clinic. In addition, we have a well-functioning cardiac CT section.
Heart diseases is an independent department established in October 2025. Previously, the cardiology function was part of the Medical Department.
All acute heart patients are received at the Acute Cardiology Clinic by a multidisciplinary team. The Acute Cardiology Clinic is located next to the cardiology medical ward, which is a dynamic and well-functioning ward with 21 telemetry-monitored beds, and there is a well-integrated collaboration between the two units. There are affiliated echo nurses who, together with the department's physicians, perform echocardiography on inpatients, acute heart patients and patients under cardiology follow-up. In addition they assist with various cardiology procedures such as TEE and DC cardioversion.
The hospital is undergoing extensive modernization in recent years. In spring 2026 the entire department moved to completely new bright and welcoming premises. The Heart Clinic is located together with the other medical specialties on the ground floor in the new common medical clinic. The ward is also completely renovated and is located on the first floor just above the Heart Clinic.
About Regions Hospital Horsens
Regions Hospital Horsens is one of the smaller hospitals in the Central Denmark Region, and we see this as one of our greatest strengths. Our size gives us closeness and a sense of community that larger workplaces may find hard to match. It makes collaboration easier because we know each other and know that we have each other's backs – both when we succeed and when we learn from our mistakes together.
Our vision is "Regions Hospital Horsens as an attractive workplace, education and treatment site as well as a partner" with a focus on both employees and patients. You will work with almost 2,000 colleagues at the hospital, and we meet each other as people while having our own professional profile.
In 2024 we took the first steps towards becoming a ’Choose Wisely’-Ambassador, where we work cross-disciplinary to identify and avoid unnecessary examinations and treatments – both in consideration of patients and the healthcare system's overall resources.
