About the job
Would you like to help set the direction for research in an emergency department in rapid development – and translate clinical questions from the acute daily life into research that makes a difference for patients and the health service?
The Emergency Department at Horsens Regional Hospital is seeking a research-responsible chief physician to help build and develop the department's research profile.
We are seeking a specialist in emergency medicine with a PhD or equivalent research qualifications, documented research experience, and a desire to create a strong research environment closely connected to clinical reality.
About the position
As the research-responsible chief physician, you will be the spearhead of the Emergency Department's research efforts.
You will be responsible for developing the department's research strategy in close collaboration with the department leadership, the department's other research-active staff, and the hospital's other research environments. You should help identify the questions that arise in clinical daily life, and create the framework for translating them into research, development and new knowledge.
We want a research environment where research is not standing alongside the clinic, but is closely integrated with it. We have an ambition that the department's research, to the widest possible extent, can be translated into clinical practice and benefit the acutely ill patients.
You will, among other things, be responsible for
- developing and implementing the Emergency Department's research strategy
- initiating, driving and supporting clinical research projects across disciplines and areas
- building and coordinating the department's research portfolio
- supporting staff with an interest in research
- supervising PhD students and other researchers
- establishing and developing collaborations with universities, research units and other hospitals
- strengthening the department's national and international research networks
- actively working on applications and securing external research funds
- contributing to research and evidence-based practice becoming a natural part of the department's development.
Research close to the acutely ill patient
The Emergency Department is the entry point for the vast majority of acute patients at Horsens Regional Hospital, with around 37,500 patient contacts annually.
We receive patients with all types of acute issues and collaborate closely with the hospital's other specialties. This provides a broad clinical research field and the opportunity to investigate questions across traditional specialty boundaries.
We have not pre-defined what you must research. We are open to different research areas and would like you to bring your own research profile and ideas into play.
Part of the department's medical community
The position combines research with clinical work in the Emergency Department.
The research-responsible chief physician participates in the clinical work on equal terms with the department's other specialists. The clinical part of the position gives you the opportunity to continue developing your clinical expertise while staying close to the issues that can form the basis for the department's research.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a specialist in emergency medicine who combines strong clinical grounding, academic ambition and a desire to create something together with others.
We imagine that you
- are a specialist in emergency medicine and have a PhD or equivalent research qualifications
- have documented research experience and scientific output
- have experience with research leadership or with leading and developing research activities
- can develop a research strategy and translate it into concrete projects
- have experience with research supervision and, preferably, supervision of PhD students
- can establish and develop collaborations with universities and other research environments
- have an interest in the acutely ill patient and the clinical reality
- can communicate clearly and inspire others to engage in research
- contribute actively to a good working environment and a strong professional community.
