About the job

Civil or military profile sought as soon as possible as an assisting defense industry attaché to the Royal Danish Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine

About us

The Ministry of Defence is seeking an assisting defense industry attaché to the Danish Embassy in Kyiv, who can support the defense attaché with tasks related to support to Ukraine.

Denmark provides extensive support to Ukraine, including training and donations of materiel and equipment, also through procurement directly from the Ukrainian defense industry. There is an ongoing need to identify upcoming donations and support needs, gather experiences, and coordinate with Ukrainian authorities, allies and partners so that Danish support to Ukraine can continue to be optimized.

About the position

As an assisting defense industry attaché to the embassy in Kyiv, your work will consist of supporting Denmark's support and engagement in relation to the Ukrainian defense industry. You will join the defense department with the defense attaché, the other assisting defense attachés and locally employed assistants.

Denmark and Ukraine have an extensive and increasingly close defense and security policy cooperation. The agreement on closer defense and security policy cooperation between Denmark and Ukraine provides a central framework for the continued development of the partnership, particularly in the defense industrial field. As an assisting defense attaché, you will contribute to translating the agreement's intentions into concrete cooperation and impact.

A substantial part of the work will be directed at the defense industrial cooperation between Denmark and Ukraine. You will help identify opportunities and needs, support ongoing and upcoming initiatives, and create coherence between Ukrainian needs and the actions of Danish authorities and other actors. The work also includes follow-up on Danish donations and other military support, as well as gathering experiences that can help develop and target Danish support to Ukraine.

The tasks are carried out in close coordination with the Defence Command, the Danish Ministry of Defence Materiel and Procurement Agency, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as relevant Danish and Ukrainian authorities and partners. Building and maintaining relevant relationships and networks in Ukraine will therefore continue to be an important prerequisite for task execution.

You will also be required to contribute to the defense department's other work, including tasks related to donations, education and other support in relation to Ukraine. This work is carried out in close coordination with the Ministry of Defence's Materiel and Procurement Agency, the Defence Command, and a number of Danish military authorities and agencies.

There is also a need to continuously keep the Defence Command and the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed about significant security and defense political issues and developments related to the war in Ukraine.

The position will involve a considerable amount of travel within and outside Ukraine, as well as planning and conducting high-level visits from the Minister of Defence, the department and Defense authorities.

Ukraine is a country at war, and the position in Kyiv therefore involves certain special conditions, including security threats and separation from relatives.

About you

As a military applicant you are either a captain/lieutenant commander at LG4 or major/commander at LG5 and have either your daily activity in the Armed Forces, are in the reserve, have served in the Armed Forces or have otherwise insight into the organization and operation of the Defence. As a civilian applicant you are either a specialist or chief consultant and have an experienced profile, preferably with experience from or knowledge of the Ministry of Defence's area. An insight into the Danish defense industry would also be an advantage.

You are outgoing and have a positive and constructive attitude towards colleagues. You will work in a team where there is transparency in task execution, and where we generally cover for each other. You are robust and can operate in a war-torn country, including handling both mental and physical stress factors.

You are curious, proactive and innovative by nature with regard to the task, both in meetings with other people – regardless of culture and traditions – and in areas relevant to the Danish-Ukrainian cooperation. You must be able to identify relevant actors across authorities, defense, industry and international partners, understand their roles and potential, and assess how they can be leveraged to bring the greatest value to the Denmark-Ukraine cooperation. This requires that you can establish and maintain the relationships and networks necessary to solve the task.

You have a good holistic view and analytical abilities, where it is important that you understand the link between political and military decisions. You will have to solve many independent tasks and work on several parallel tasks, often with tight deadlines. Therefore it is important that you have an overview and can communicate clearly, precisely and concisely in both writing and speaking.

It is an advantage if you have experience with case processing and the preparation of written material at higher staffs, central administration or similar areas. It is also an advantage if you have experience with multinational cooperation or have served in joint services. Finally, it is an advantage, but not a requirement, if you have knowledge of Russian or Ukrainian languages.
