About the job

Would you like to work with psychotherapy, psychological screenings and escort assessments in the world's largest humanitarian organization? Then you have the opportunity to apply for this exciting position as a psychologist based at Holmegaard asylum center on Langeland.

This is a permanent part-time position of 30 hours per week. The positions have a clinical psychological focus, primarily in the form of individual conversations, pathways and screenings of asylum seekers. We are looking for a psychologist who is broadly clinically and theoretically grounded in relation to conversations with children, young people, adults and families.

About us

The Danish Red Cross asylum department currently runs six asylum centers across the country, offering residents a range of services, including health and psychology services, social and educational offers, teaching and activities for both children and adults. We also carry out tasks at the Departure Center Sjælsmark in Hørsholm and Departure Center Kærshovedgård in Ikast, which are operated by Denmark’s Prisons.

Here you can read more about our tasks and centers.

Our overarching tasks are to give asylum seekers a safe, meaningful and dignified everyday life while they are staying within the Red Cross framework.

Our tasks in the Psychology Unit

The Psychology Unit currently consists of twelve psychologists, an administrative coordinator and a clinical psychology leader. All psychologists are authorized under the Authorization Scheme as of 1 January 2026, all except two with Practice Education, and we have specialists in clinical child psychology, psychotherapy, supervision and psychotraumatology.

We perform a range of tasks aimed at asylum seekers, including screening, assessment and treatment tasks related to children, young people and adults living with severe consequences of flight, torture, war and persecution, loss, broken relationships and waiting-time stress. We work with interpreters when necessary. In addition, we have staff psychologists who perform tasks related to employees in the asylum department.

The unit's psychologists have methodological freedom but will, as far as possible, be trained in EMDR. We are in the process of implementing NET - Narrative Exposure Therapy.

The psychologists participate in interdisciplinary collaboration meetings where relevant, and can take part in different projects and activities. Some psychologists teach staff in conflict management and psychological first aid.

As our future colleague, your primary workplace will be the Holmegaard asylum center on Langeland – currently the only psychologist at the center. Since we work nationwide, you can expect tasks at other centers as well.

Your qualifications

  • You are a Cand. Psych. with authorization or close to becoming authorized
  • You have knowledge of and experience in dealing with crisis and trauma reactions in adults or children/young people, PTSD and with people who have been subjected to torture. Experience with refugees/asylum seekers would be an advantage.
  • You can work both independently and in teams
  • You can contribute constructively in interdisciplinary collaboration – and at the same time be able to convey and represent psychological perspectives in collaboration with other professional groups
  • You are able to navigate within a sometimes dilemma-filled work area
  • You possess good communication skills both orally and in writing
  • You can operate within organizational contexts characterized by different political interests and high volatility

We offer

  • A job where you can make a real difference for people in a vulnerable position
  • A professionally exciting workplace in a lively and inclusive humanitarian organization
  • A workplace that continuously works on a good working environment, and where there is room for visions of the work and for thinking big
  • A good social environment both internally in the Psychology Unit with various social and professional events as well as across the organization with other professional groups
  • A group of dedicated and competent colleagues who are willing to share their knowledge and experience, and where you can become part of the ongoing development of the unit's tasks
  • Opportunity for supervision (both group and individual) and professional development
  • Flexible scheduling (flexitime)
  • Possibility of remote work to the extent that it can be fitted to the tasks
