About the job

Climate change and increasing risk of erosion and flooding fill more space than ever before. At the Danish Nature Agency, Lemvig, we are seeking a dedicated colleague with coastal technical expertise and experience in regulatory processing, who will help ensure a holistic and professionally grounded management of the Danish coasts.

The Danish Nature Agency plays a central role in climate adaptation along the Danish coasts. We advise municipalities and other actors on the consequences of climate change, including flooding and shoreline retreat, and support planning and decisions through professional assessments, risk analyses, regulatory processing and risk communication.

As our new colleague, you will become part of the work on climate adaptation and management of the coastal zone. You will take on a role where your coastal technical knowledge is combined with regulatory tasks, and where you must be able to translate complex professional issues into clear assessments, decisions and consultation responses.

You will, among other things, work with assessments of coastal erosion, coastal retreat and the effects of different coastal protection solutions, depending on your competences. You will also participate in cases, including consultations, statements and decisions, and help ensure that cases are treated on a solid professional and administrative basis.

An important part of the work will be the dialogue with municipalities, citizens, advisers and other authorities. Here you must be able to communicate coastal technical conditions in a way that makes complex issues understandable, while maintaining the professional and administrative requirements.

You will also be able to participate in tasks relating to the joint contractual forms on the West Jutland coast as well as in guidance and training of municipalities on coastal processes, coastal protection and climate adaptation. Depending on your competences and experience, you may also participate in national and international collaborations.

About you

We are looking for a colleague with a relevant educational background and experience within coastal engineering, coastal processes, physical geography or a related field. It is an advantage if you also have experience with regulatory processing and case handling.

We imagine that you

  • Have solid knowledge of the dynamics of the coastal zone, erosion and the effects of different coastal protection solutions.
  • Have experience with regulatory processing and case handling, including preparation and assessment of consultations, statements, professional assessments and decisions.
  • Can combine your technical and natural scientific understanding with a good sense of legislation, administrative considerations and the regulatory role.
  • Have strong analytical abilities and experience in collecting, processing and evaluating both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Can assess complex coastal technical issues and translate them into clear conclusions and a decision basis.
  • Work in a structured and independent manner and can maintain an overview in complex cases with many stakeholders.
  • Are proficient in both written and oral communication and can convey technically complex issues to professionals, municipalities, citizens and other stakeholders.
  • Have an understanding of the different natural and vegetation conditions of the coast and their significance for coastal development.
  • Work holistically and in an application-oriented manner and have an eye for the connections between technology, nature, administrative execution and climate adaptation.

We especially emphasize that you can combine the coastal technical expertise with the regulatory task. You do not need to know everything from the start, but you must be eager to apply your expertise to concrete cases and help develop both our methods and our regulatory work.

Tasks in the unit and organizational structure

In the Coastal Zone Administration unit, we work with traditional regulatory processing of installations on territorial waters, shoreline protection and dune preservation, processing applications for the Coast Fund, as well as statements and consultation responses under the Coastal Protection Act. We are 28 dedicated employees with diverse professional backgrounds – including geographers, geologists, biologists and lawyers. Our cross-disciplinary approach ensures that we can solve complex tasks of high quality.

The Coastal Zone Administration is part of the Danish Nature Agency, and together with several other units we form the area of Coasts and Climate Adaptation, which is located in Lemvig.

With us you get the opportunity to work on some of the central challenges that climate change poses for the Danish coasts, and you become part of a professional environment where natural science, coastal engineering and regulatory tasks go hand in hand.
