About the job

Do you want to use finance, data and planning to create strong decision bases and concrete improvements in clinical operations? And do you thrive in close collaboration with leaders and healthcare professionals in a large and complex organization?

Then you might be our new colleague in Financial Management and Operations Development at Aarhus University Hospital. We are looking for an experienced consultant for a permanent position. We would like you to have experience with financial management and operations development from a public sector organization. You will be responsible for financial management and operational support of clinical departments and may also have the opportunity to contribute to development tasks across the hospital.

About Financial Management and Operations Development

Financial Management and Operations Development is part of the Hospital Administration at Aarhus University Hospital and consists of 25 employees. The unit supports the hospital’s clinical departments and management in both psychiatry and somatics and works, among other things, with financial management, budgeting, financial follow-up, forecasts, analyses, operations planning, management consulting, process facilitation and activity follow-up.

We work as a team and in close collaboration with the department heads and other units in the Hospital Administration. With our different professional competencies, we contribute to creating coherence between the hospital’s clinical ambitions, activity, capacity and financial framework. Our task is both to create an overview and usable decision bases and to translate strategic direction, knowledge and analyses into concrete improvements in the clinical daily life.

The task is especially important in a time when the healthcare system faces significant changes. The health reform, demographic development, increasing treatment needs, shortages of workforce and new financial framework conditions place great demands on the hospital’s ability to prioritize, adapt and use resources in the best possible way.

The position

We are seeking a consultant who is ambitious and has a desire to strengthen the work with financial management and operations development as well as support for clinical hospital departments at AUH. You will be responsible for ongoing financial management, planning and management support in several departments. You will become a close sparring partner for the department heads and help create an overview of finances, activity, staffing and capacity, so that leadership can make decisions on an informed and strategic basis.

The tasks range from fixed management deliverables to analyses and development projects. You must therefore be able to work structurally with data and analyses and be curious about the clinical reality. An important part of the role is to translate data and financial issues into clear messages and usable actions for leaders and professionals.

Your tasks will include

  • handle ongoing financial management, planning and management sparring for several departments
  • prepare monthly financial forecasts and follow up on the department’s financial balance
  • analyze relationships between staffing, tasks, activity development, capacity and finance
  • prepare forward-looking decision bases and communicate analyses, risks and possible actions clearly
  • support optimization and development of the departments’ planning and management, including better use of data and capacity planning
  • advise and spar with the Health and Hospital Leadership and department heads on frameworks and terms for operations
  • participate in development projects and cross-cutting processes in close collaboration with clinical departments and colleagues in the Hospital Administration
  • support leaders and leadership groups in change, implementation and ongoing follow-up

Your profile

We expect that you

  • have a relevant academic education at master’s level
  • have experience with financial management and operations development as well as supporting clinical hospital departments
  • have strong analytical skills and are comfortable with numbers, data and management models
  • have experience with budget follow-up, financial forecasts and activity management
  • have good process and facilitation skills and can create momentum in collaboration with many stakeholders
  • can work in a structured and systematic way with a view to both the financial, organizational and human perspectives
  • thrive in close dialogue with leaders and can challenge, advise and support them in their leadership role
  • can analyze and communicate complex issues and large data sets so they become understandable and usable for clinicians and leaders
  • can work independently, prioritize in a changing daily life and follow up on tasks to the end
  • have experience from a politically governed organization and a solid knowledge of the health sector

As a person, you are curious, collaborative and good at building relationships. You take responsibility for your deliveries, share your knowledge and actively contribute to the unit’s academic and social community. You do not need to know all aspects of hospital operation from the start, but you should be eager to learn and to apply your professional expertise together with others.

We offer

  • a permanent position in one of the country’s most complex and exciting public organizations
  • a professionally strong environment with colleagues who combine economics, data, operations and development
  • close collaboration with clinicians and leaders and the opportunity to have real influence on the hospital’s operations and development
  • good opportunities for professional development within financial management, operations development and the consultant role
  • a strong collegial and informal working environment with room for humor and social activities.
