About the job

Do you have strong competencies in biological and chemical remediation of pollutants from the environment, and a solid background in molecular methods? Are you passionate about hands-on laboratory experiments and translating professional knowledge into concrete solutions in the green transition? Then you are the person we are looking for to strengthen our research and development activities.

Innovative solutions for the environment and climate adaptation

In the centre Agriculture and Digitalization we work at the intersection of microbiology, chemistry, agronomy and data science. We develop innovative technologies that ensure a cleaner environment and a more sustainable utilization of resources.

We are currently working on a number of exciting research and development projects in climate adaptation, including the use of biochar in agricultural soil, reforestation, and bioremediation of polluted water environments.

We are therefore seeking a new colleague with strong laboratory skills and scientific heft, who can drive experimental setups and actively contribute to the development of new research initiatives aimed at soil and water environments.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Laboratory experiments from A to Z: Planning, practical setup, validation and daily operation of advanced laboratory configurations as well as on-site pilot-scale experiments.
  • Molecular biological and microbiological analyses: DNA extraction, qPCR, 16S sequencing to characterize microbial communities, functional groups and biological processes.
  • Reduction of pollutants: Chemical analyses to investigate and optimize the chemical adsorption- and desorption properties of materials in relation to pesticide residues, heavy metals, PFAS, etc. from soil and surface-, drainage- and groundwater.
  • Project development: Active participation in project development, design and writing of research and innovation applications in close collaboration with the project leader.
  • Data analysis and dissemination: Collection and processing of experimental data, documentation and communication of results via technical reports and presentations to partners.

Laboratory-strong consultant with scientific heft

You hold a relevant master's degree in, for example, environmental technology, biochemistry, microbiology, biology, chemistry, agronomy or a related natural science or engineering field.

We especially value that you have

  • proven practical experience with molecular techniques and microbiological work methods
  • experience with chemical adsorption and desorption and the processes that bind pollutants to particles in soil matrix or in the water phase
  • experience with setup, daily operation, ongoing optimization of experimental setups in the laboratory and on-site pilot-scale facilities
  • experience with, or strong motivation for, participating in the preparation of research and development applications

As a person you have good collaboration skills and a desire to work across disciplines with both academic partners and industry. You are a strong communicator in Danish and English, both written and spoken.

You will become part of the Technology Institute

You will work daily in the Agriculture and Digitalization center in Skejby near Aarhus. Here 67 development-oriented colleagues collaborate in a strong professional environment with laboratory facilities and expertise in biotechnology, microbiology, agronomy, statistics and data science. The center is part of the Division Production and Food, which has about 350 employees.

We offer a dynamic and flexible workplace with a high degree of freedom with responsibility, good opportunities for professional development and a committed team that is passionate about making a real difference for the environment and business.

At the Technology Institute we believe that technology improves business, society and people’s lives - technology for a better future. Our work is built on solid expertise, independence and innovation. As an employee with us you become part of an independent knowledge center with a broad cross-disciplinary scope, where we translate the latest knowledge into practical and holistic solutions.
