About the job

Do you want to shape a new, cross-cutting Data Governance capability from the ground up? And are you motivated by creating clear frameworks that enable a complex organization to make decisions and take responsibility closer to the business?

As Data Governance Lead you will have a central role in making requirements, responsibilities and decision rights explicit across Energinet. The goal is not more governance, but less organizational friction around data and an organization that can act more autonomously.

You will build a new Data Governance capability

Your workplace will be our headquarters in Fredericia, where you will join Architecture Enablement in Tech & Innovation. The department creates common frameworks and capabilities that support coherent decisions and development across Energinet.

The team works with cross-cutting architecture and governance capabilities. You will be responsible for establishing and maturing the Data Governance capability and anchoring it in the organization's existing ways of working. It is a building role where you both set the direction and translate it into solutions that work in practice.

“We are not looking for someone to create more administration around data. We are looking for someone who can create few, clear frameworks so that responsibility and decisions become clear, and the organization can act more autonomously. This is a building task where the right person will have a strong influence on how Data Governance should function at Energinet,” says Chief Product Owner, Søren Flø Larsen.

You translate principles into common frameworks that work in practice

You establish the common rules of the game for Energinet’s work with data and make them usable in the organization’s daily work. You collaborate with leaders, data owners and business domains to create a shared understanding of responsibility, requirements and decision paths.

Your key tasks will be to

  • develop policies, meaningful compliance requirements and common standards for the data domain
  • establish a clear model for mandates, responsibilities and decision rights
  • clarify principled questions about data ownership, classification and accountability
  • define requirements for documentation and evidence so compliance can be demonstrated
  • embed governance in existing processes and follow up on compliance and organizational maturity

You also support the organizational anchoring through concrete applications and the first pilot areas. At the same time you create engagement and a common direction among stakeholders with different needs and professional starting points.

The role does not own concrete data, and you will not have operational responsibility for data platforms, metadata or data quality. Responsibility for data lies with the areas that know and use them. You create the frameworks for them to exercise the responsibility clearly and consistently.

You will create a foundation on which the organization can build further

In your first 6-12 months you will

  • describe and anchor the Data Governance capability’s purpose, mandate and scope
  • establish a usable model for responsibility, mandates and decision rights
  • translate the first prioritized compliance requirements and standards into relevant ways of working
  • create a practical working method for principled data decisions
  • use lessons learned from the first pilot areas to adjust the frameworks and plan the continued maturation

This means that relevant parts of the organization experience greater clarity about responsibility, requirements and decision paths, and that Energinet has a realistic basis for further developing the capability.

You create clarity in a complex organization

We do not necessarily expect you to come from a classic Data Governance function. For example, you might have experience from Data Enterprise Architecture, Data Management, compliance and governance, operating model design or organizational transformation.

We place emphasis on you having solid, documented experience and

  • have established or matured cross-cutting capabilities in a complex organization
  • translate principles and strategic goals into simple and usable frameworks
  • understand responsibility, mandate, decision rights, compliance and organizational anchoring
  • drive progress and a shared direction among stakeholders with different needs
  • communicate clearly and naturally at both management and specialist levels

In addition, you will have enough understanding of Data Management, metadata, data quality and data platforms to set clear interfaces without taking over operational responsibility. You work pragmatically, avoid unnecessary complexity and thrive on both shaping the target picture and testing the first solutions in practice.
