About the job
Would you like to help create strong participation opportunities for all children and at the same time be a present and clear leader for our staff?
We are looking for a department head who wants to become part of our leadership team and contribute to developing our school with a focus on both people, professionalism and community.
For us, the students are the focus. We work project-based and for the last 5 years have been part of a strong LEAPS network. Leaps schools | Leaps schools
We are committed to creating a school where children experience meaning, curiosity and a desire to learn. We have a strong focus on the general curriculum and on creating participation opportunities for all kinds of children. It requires both strong professional competences, a clear view of children and a humanity characterized by trust, respect and the belief that all children can contribute to the community. We value play, curiosity and creative learning approaches as part of children's formation and development.
We are looking for a leader who
is relationship-based, and has the view that good leadership primarily concerns people. You must be able to be close to the staff, be curious about their perspectives and at the same time give room for them to unfold their professionalism and solve their tasks with freedom and responsibility.
You must be able to create followership. That means you can set direction, be clear about expectations and make decisions, and at the same time also invite dialogue and be genuinely interested in others' perspectives.
You must be able to navigate safely between operations and strategy. Everyday life at a school requires an overview, structure and the ability to complete tasks, while we always need to keep an eye on long-term development. You are therefore both structured, flexible and good at prioritizing.
As part of the leadership team you must be able to collaborate closely, take responsibility and stand behind the common decisions. We distribute tasks among us, but first and foremost we see ourselves as one leadership team that together has responsibility for the school's development and daily life.
Phase leader for grades 0-4
As phase leader you will have a special responsibility for our youngest students and for the close collaboration between teachers and pedagogues and the school's after-school care (SFO).
We see the pedagogical and academic collaboration as a significant strength. Together we shall create good transitions, strong communities and learning environments where students can participate in different ways and feel that they belong.
You should therefore want to be close to both staff, students and the pedagogical practice and help strengthen the coherence between school and leisure time.
A school with a strong local anchoring
Hornbæk School is closely connected to the local area we are part of. Many of our parents have themselves attended the school, and several of our staff have children here. It creates a very special attachment to the school and a strong sense of community around it. The school board is actively involved and supports the school's values with strong principles that follow societal development and are dynamic. Local associations participate actively in the school's daily life and support and participate in sports days etc.
The local engagement means a lot to us. We want a department head who wants to be a visible part of this community, and who sees parent collaboration as an important part of the school's task.
We offer
- a school with a strong academic and value-based foundation
- an engaged and competent staff community
- a close and trustful collaboration within the leadership team
- opportunity to influence the school's continued development
- a daily life close to children, staff and pedagogues
- a school with strong local anchoring and a high level of engagement from both staff and parents.
In Helsingør Municipality we are undertaking a joint municipal development
We are part of a municipality that has a strong focus on developing the schools' participation capacity. This means that together we work to strengthen the general area so that more children can be part of the communities they are already part of.
For us it's not about children having to fit into the school, but about us as a school being skilled at creating learning environments and communities where different children can participate in different ways. It requires that we develop our pedagogical and didactic practice and become even better at seeing opportunities and acting on them.
As department head you will be an important part of this development. You must be able to support the staff in translating ambitions into practice, be close to the pedagogical daily life and together with the leadership team help create the organizational framework that makes it possible.
We see participation capacity as something we develop together in management, among staff and in the close collaboration between teachers and pedagogues. Our secretariat is a strong team that supports the administrative leadership tasks so that as much leadership time as possible can be spent on staff and development of the school.
We are looking for you who can stand firm and be curious, can create structure and give room, as well as have an eye for the individual employee and for the school's overall direction.
You do not need to be able to do everything from day one. Instead you should be eager to learn, ask, collaborate and take responsibility.
We expect that you have a leadership education, or are willing to undertake it.
Are you interested in joining? Then we look forward to hearing from you.
The position is a full-time position with employment from December 1, 2026.
The application deadline is Tuesday, October 20 at 12:00.
Two interviews will be held. The first interview is expected to take place on Thursday the 22nd after 14:00 and the second interview Monday October 26 after 14:00. Between the two interviews references will be collected by agreement
If you have questions about the position, you are welcome to call the acting principal Jeanette Scaglione Jordahn or department head Charlotte Jensen at the school's telephone number 4928 1680.
The position is remunerated according to the collective agreement, with placement on the relevant base pay grade. There may also be allowance for duties and qualifications based on negotiation in accordance with Helsingør Municipality's pay policy.
Helsingør Municipality requires that a criminal record and child safeguarding check be obtained for the applicant to be employed, and this will be included in the overall final assessment.
