About the job

Do you want to make a difference for young people in Aalborg Municipality?

Do you have leadership skills?

Are you keen to make a difference for vulnerable young people who need alternative support interventions?

We are currently looking for a department head who, together with our current department heads, will develop and ensure Aalborg Municipality's best alternative offerings.

About the position/place of work

The Alternative Offers consist of various alternatives to placement. Our core service is support contact person interventions, but we also offer family support, which is a supplementary effort where the young person's family and network are supported.

The department has nearly 200 active interventions, which our employees handle.

In the Alternative Offers, the youths are linked to three placements: Golfparken, Poul Paghs Gade and Absalonsgade in Aalborg. If you become our new department head, you will also work daily at these locations, where there are 12, 18 and 16 employees respectively.

Your working days as department head are very varied, and you must thrive in that. You will move around wherever there is a need. This can involve sparring and support for employees, or visiting your partners in the Authority. It can also be a day in the office, where there is a need to ensure systematic work and follow-up on the department's cases, finances, etc.

Who are you?

We are looking for someone who will lead from the front and head a team of professionally strong employees who daily handle complex tasks in connection with vulnerable young people. You should have a natural interest in people and a desire to make a difference so that we succeed with our core task: helping children and young people master their own lives.

We would like you to

  • Be proactive in your approach to your staff.
  • Be structured and systematic.
  • Can work with professional programs, extract useful data from them, and be able to communicate the value of this work – both internally and externally. We use Sofus Social.
  • Understand the importance of good collaboration and have developed strong competencies in this regard.
  • Be adaptable and problem-solving.
  • Be able to translate your professional knowledge into practice so that the young people receive effective and meaningful interventions.

The leadership role requires that you have leadership experience, preferably from similar contexts. We also imagine that you have a background as either a pedagogue, social worker, or similar and have experience with the target group.

What do we offer?

As department head you will be part of a leadership team of three. You will have your own department, but also a close and committed leadership community with the other two department heads and your special leader. In addition, you will become part of several leadership communities, both with the other leaders in the specialty you join, and a cross-department leadership network in the Center for Day- and Night-Time Services.

With us you are not alone, and we insist that leadership is something we do best together!

In addition, you will get

  • Flexible meeting times so you can plan your working hours based on both the youths' needs and your own preferences.
  • A team of professionally strong, independent and highly motivated employees.
  • Collaboration interfaces and contacts across the entire administration, especially in the Children and Family Department, so you feel secure.
  • Professional and leadership development. There is, of course, sparring and support for you in your leadership role; in addition, there is external supervision and leadership development programs in our expanded leadership network.

Does this sound like something for you?

The application deadline is 22 October 2026, and we expect to conduct interviews on 29 October 2026 at Hjulmagervej 22, 9000 Aalborg.

If you have questions, you can contact special leader Brian Tjørnelund-Larsen at tel. 2339 7867 or center chief Mariann Boje Jones at tel. 2519 9270.

We look forward to hearing from you!
