Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care, Neurocenter, Rigshospitalet is seeking a consultant physician.

About the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care

The department is located in new bright premises in the North Wing at Rigshospitalet, and houses: Neurointensive Care Unit; which is the Nordic region's largest with 16 beds. The department receives and treats all intensive care and operation-requiring neurosurgical patients (SAH, TBI, SDH) in Eastern Denmark, as well as all high spinal cord injury patients and a selection of highly specialized neurological conditions (e.g., Guillain–Barré, myasthenia, status epilepticus as well as a number of diagnostic “emergencies”).

Neuroanesthesia Section; which provides medical anesthesia and surgical assistance in 5 operating theatres and 2 neurointerventional rooms, including about 300 pediatric anesthesias per year. Particularly, the area concerning intraoperative MR scanning is under development. Anesthesia is provided for a growing number of neuroradiological interventions (currently about 700/year) and MRI scans (currently about 700/year, mostly children) with anesthesia involvement. Our 10-bed recovery ward handles around 4000 wake-up courses/year.

The department is characterized by a high level of professional competence with a number of skilled and professionally ambitious doctors, and delivers neuroanesthesia and neurointensive treatment at the highest international level, as well as a high general intensive care professional standard. The department is also deeply involved in the development of the organ donation field.

The department has undergone rapid development, and we are proud to have an established research group with one professor and four lecturers, an internationally accredited fellowship, and an innovation laboratory aimed at technological and organizational innovation that drives improvements in both patient care and the work environment.

In addition, we have ongoing specialists on SSAI training programs in intensive care as well as Perioperative Medicine and Management (POMM). All doctors in the department have the opportunity to take on responsibilities and contribute to professional and organizational development.

The department is characterized by an ambitious and positive atmosphere, good relations with our partners: neurosurgeons, neurologists, spine surgeons and interventional radiologists and a close and good collaboration between professional groups.

About the position

Work during daytime will be divided between the operating room and the intensive care unit. As a department physician you will join a team of about 22 specialists that covers on-call duties (double coverage) during shifts. You will also have the opportunity to manage your own competence areas and continue your education, e.g. through the fellowship program.

The appointment is placed in the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care, Neurocenter, Rigshospitalet with duties at Blegdamsvej.

Appointment expected on 01.02.2027 or by agreement.
