About the job

We are currently looking for

  • Midwives for 3 permanent positions from 1.1.2027 in the delivery ward, full-time

With us you can look forward to

  • Time for both birth and family
  • One midwife for one birthing couple - every time
  • Variation in your tasks (e.g. consultations, mobile midwife, acute clinic, etc., maternity ward)
  • Close collaboration on all shifts from both a midwifery supervisor and your colleagues – you are never alone
  • Influence on your schedule (8, 9 or 12 hour shifts, most D/A or most D/N)
  • A strong collegial community with room for laughter and professional discussions

Professional and organizational profile

We have now been at the new hospital in Gødstrup since 2022, and we enjoy our new, beautiful facilities in the “Family Cluster” with about 3100 births:

  • Delivery ward, acute clinic and maternity ward located close together with a shared coffee room
  • Delivery ward and OR located right next to each other
  • All 8 delivery rooms are laid out as interactive delivery rooms with local natural themes from our 6 municipalities, and with the possibility to play the couples’ individual music
  • All maternity rooms are furnished with a double bed (can be separated in an acute situation)
  • Midwife consultations, family outpatient clinic and the pregnancy clinic are all on the ground floor
  • Our facilities boost oxytocin both during birth and on the maternity wards for the benefit of our families, and also for us as staff. In addition, we have an excellent view and the opportunity for a lovely 1-hour walk around Gødstrup lake
  • Strong collaboration with Children & Youth and the department for sick newborns and preterm
  • NIDO is our new research unit, which forms the framework for a strong research environment at the hospital

It is important to us that our families experience a high quality of care based on the wishes and possibilities of each couple. We believe that safety, relationships and atmosphere are important and necessary ingredients in strong maternity care. We have 5 well-known midwifery agreements because we experience that continuity and familiarity matter for relationships. Fewer birth injuries, reduction of bleeding, etc., and “More good vaginal births” are some of the professional benchmarks we focus on in a improvement perspective.

We work to empower couples in belief in their own abilities. We are there for them, also when they are at home. We have a mobile team, consisting of midwives/nurses, who conduct home visits for both first-time and multiparous births. First-time mothers choose themselves when they want to go home after birth: directly from the delivery ward with 2 home visits by the mobile team, stay 24 hours on the maternity ward with 1 home visit, or if they need more days on the maternity ward.

We believe that giving couples the autonomy to choose provides security, and that we can offer them visits in their own surroundings. At the same time, it strengthens our ability to provide extra care to more vulnerable and complicated families.

As part of the hospital’s vision to become Denmark’s best learning hospital, we have an “obstetric study section” on the maternity ward for medical, nursing and midwifery students. The study section handles recovery care and maternity care of elective sectii.

In the “Section for losses and abortions,” a fixed team of midwives provides care for couples who experience loss. Supervision is a fixed part of the team, as it is for other teams in the department. There is also an option for individual supervision for all employees as needed.

We have been named the best maternity department by Dagens Medicin for 9 years in a row. That obliges us, and we take care to continue delivering high quality and coherent care throughout the department.

Tasks and area of responsibility

We actively strive to be a psychologically safe workplace, where everyone feels safe sharing ideas, mistakes and criticism. We are committed to the whole department doing a good job and learning from each other. We have an informal tone across management levels and professional groups, and we love a good laugh on all shifts. We have lots of good ideas that we create together and that we dare to try out.

EVERY employee’s ideas and contributions are needed so we can maintain our excellent birth place – and we look forward to YOUR contribution. We love discussing professional matters and care pathways with colleagues across disciplines, and collegial sparring takes place on all shifts regardless of seniority.

We have clinical midwifery supervisors around the clock, and we have a fruitful collaboration with the department’s doctors. Our strong multidisciplinary collaboration is the cornerstone of our department. The maternity department and the maternity ward (which employ both midwives and nurses) work closely together and help each other during busy shifts and in case of illness.

As a new midwife in our department, you will participate in a structured introductory program with mentorship, supervision and skills training , so you are best able to integrate into both the professional and social culture.
