About the job

Do you want to be part of a highly specialized area where professional challenges, strong collegiality and close relationships with patients and relatives go hand in hand?

Then we may have the position for you.

In the Haematology Ward you will become part of an engaged staff group where we emphasize high professional standards, a good working environment and a culture where we help each other. There is room here for both the experienced nurse and you who are curious about a new specialty.

What can we offer you?

A strong professional environment with good development opportunities

Haematology is a complex and exciting specialty, where there is always something new to learn. Therefore professional development is a natural part of our everyday life.

We prioritize, among other things

  • morning teaching and professional sparring in everyday life
  • monofield reflective forums and interdisciplinary conferences
  • an annual nursing symposium
  • close collaboration with experienced colleagues, specialty-responsible nurses and key people
  • opportunities for ongoing competence development and professional deepening.

You will have the opportunity to develop strong clinical competences in, among other things, intravenous therapy, medical cancer treatment, antibiotic treatment, care and observation of central and peripheral catheters as well as nursing care for acute and complex seriously ill patients.

Thorough onboarding and a safe start

We know that it takes time to get to know hematology. Therefore we prioritize thorough onboarding, where there is room for questions, reflection and professional development.

You will become part of a learning environment where we help each other, share our knowledge and actively work with psychological safety.

We do not expect you to know the specialty from day one. Instead, we expect you to be curious and eager to learn.

Influence on your workday and shift schedule

We continuously work to create attractive and sustainable working conditions, with a focus on both professionalism, well-being and balance between work and private life.

With us you get, among other things

  • influence on your own duty roster
  • opportunity to choose between day/evening shifts or day/night shifts
  • permanent work every 3rd weekend and one extra weekend annually
  • focus on reducing the burden of shifts and weekend work.

A strong collegial community

We are proud of our collegial community and the helpfulness that characterizes everyday life. We know that high professionalism and good nursing also depend on trusting each other and being able to draw on each other’s competencies. You will become part of an engaged and development-oriented staff group with great professional pride, where we collaborate across teams and subspecialties.

We also prioritize social cohesion and are happy to initiate activities that bring us together, both during and outside working hours.

Nursing with professional complexity and meaningful patient relationships

In Haematology we meet patients in all stages of their disease course. Some are admitted acutely and require intensive observation and treatment, while others have longer and repeated admissions. This provides the opportunity to build close and trusting relationships with both patients and relatives and to make a difference in courses often characterized by great vulnerability and uncertainty.

Nursing spans a broad spectrum—from advanced medical treatment and management of acute situations to rehabilitation, patient involvement and palliation. It is a specialty where your clinical judgement, your relational skills, and your ability to collaborate are all put to use.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a nurse who would like to become part of our professional and collegial community.

We emphasize that you

  • have an interest in nursing acutely ill and seriously ill patients
  • thrive with complex and often longer patient pathways
  • can establish trusting relationships with patients and relatives
  • meet others with curiosity, presence and respect
  • want to develop professionally and learn a highly specialized area
  • actively contribute to collaboration, the work environment and the joint task solving
  • take shared responsibility for your own learning and development
  • it is an advantage if you have experience as a nurse, preferably within cancer or blood diseases, or have completed a chemotherapy course. However, it is not a requirement.

Who are we?

Haematology Ward at Aarhus University Hospital has 33 beds distributed across two teams.

One team primarily handles patients with lymphatic cancer, while the other primarily handles patients with leukemia and myelomatosis. We also have two special adolescent rooms for patients between 18 and 29 years old.

Each team has its own chief nurse, and we work closely together on both operations, development and working environment.

For both teams there are specialty-responsible nurses, care coordinators, clinical coordinators and key people with various professional responsibilities attached.

We work with assigned patient care, buddying and close multidisciplinary collaboration with doctors and therapists.

Common to us is the ambition to create coherent patient journeys with high professional quality and with the patient’s and relatives’ perspectives at the center.
