About the job

Do you want to be part of a highly specialized area where professional challenges, strong collegiality and close relationships with patients and relatives go hand in hand?

Then we may have the position for you.

In the Hematology Ward, you will become part of an engaged staff group where we emphasize high professionalism, a good working environment and a culture where we help each other. Here there is room for both the experienced nurse and you who are curious about a new specialty.

What can we offer you?

A strong professional environment with good development opportunities

Hematology is a complex and exciting specialty where there is always something new to learn. Therefore professional development is a natural part of our everyday life.

We prioritize, among other things

  • morning teaching and professional sparring in everyday work
  • monofield reflection forums and interdisciplinary conferences
  • an annual nursing symposium
  • close collaboration with experienced colleagues, specialty-responsible nurses and key persons
  • opportunity for ongoing competences development and professional deepening.

You will have the opportunity to build strong clinical competencies in, among other things, intravenous therapy, medical cancer treatment, antibiotic treatment, care and observation of central and peripheral catheters as well as nursing for acute and complex hematology patients.

A thorough onboarding and a safe start

We know that it takes time to get to know hematology. Therefore we prioritize thorough onboarding, where there is room for questions, reflection and professional development.

You will become part of a learning environment where we help each other, share our knowledge and actively work with psychological safety.

We do not expect you to know the specialty from day one. Instead, we expect you to be curious and eager to learn.

Influence on your workday and shift schedule

We continuously work to create attractive and sustainable working conditions, where there is focus on professionalism, well-being and balance between work and private life.

With us you get, among other things

  • influence on your own shift plan
  • option to choose between day/evening shifts or day/night shifts
  • steady work every 3rd weekend plus one additional weekend per year
  • focus on reducing the burden of shifts and weekend work.

A strong collegial community

We are proud of our collegial community and the helpfulness that characterizes everyday life. We know that high professionalism and good nursing also depend on trusting each other and being able to draw on each other's competences. You will become part of an engaged and development-oriented staff group with great professional pride, where we collaborate across teams and subspecialties.

We also prioritize social togetherness and are happy to initiate activities that bring us together, both during and outside working hours.

Nursing with professional complexity and meaningful patient relationships

In Hematology we meet patients at all stages of their disease trajectory. Some are admitted acutely and require intensive observation and treatment, while others have longer and recurring admissions. This provides the opportunity to build close and trustful relationships with both patients and relatives and to make a difference in trajectories often characterized by great vulnerability and uncertainty.

Nursing spans from advanced medical treatment and management of acute situations to rehabilitation, patient involvement and palliative care. It is a specialty where both your clinical judgment, your relational skills and your ability to collaborate are put to use.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a nurse who wants to become part of our professional and collegial community.

We place importance on that you

  • have an interest in nursing for acutely and seriously ill patients
  • thrive with complex and often longer patient pathways
  • can establish trustful relationships with patients and relatives
  • meet others with curiosity, presence and respect
  • are eager to develop professionally and learn a highly specialized area
  • contribute actively to collaboration, the working environment and the shared task solving
  • take co-responsibility for your own learning and development
  • it is an advantage if you have experience as a nurse, preferably within cancer or hematology, or have completed a cytostatic course. However, this is not a requirement.

Who are we?

Hemato-Logies Ward at Aarhus University Hospital has 33 beds distributed across two teams.

One team primarily cares for patients with lymphoid cancer, while the other primarily cares for patients with leukemia and myelomatosis. We also have two special young patient rooms for patients between 18 and 29 years old.

Each team has its own chief nurse, and we work closely together on both operation, development and the work environment.

For both teams there are specialty-responsible nurses, care coordinators, clinical coordinators and key persons with different professional responsibilities attached.

We work with assigned patient care, camaraderie and close interdisciplinary collaboration with, among others, doctors and therapists.

Common for us is the ambition to create cohesive patient pathways with high professional quality and with the patient’s and the relatives’ perspectives in the center.
