About the job

At the Accident Investigation Board for Civil Aviation and Railways we are seeking an engaged technical investigator with strong aviation technical insight, who will help prevent aircraft accidents and serious incidents.

The team you will be part of

The Accident Investigation Board for Civil Aviation and Railways is an independent state authority under the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Transport, whose task is to investigate accidents, incidents and serious events within both civil aviation and railways – with the clear purpose of preventing future occurrences.

We are based in Ringsted and consist of a small, specialised team of 11 employees (administration, rail and aviation). In your daily work you will become part of the Aviation Department with five investigators in addition to you, of whom one acts as professional leader.

As an aviation investigator you will have a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of advanced technology, in-depth analysis and international cooperation. You will be at the forefront when it comes to creating insights, sharing knowledge and strengthening aviation safety – both here at home and around the world.

We offer a meaningful and societally important job where you will have responsibility, professional variety and the opportunity to develop in a strong and dedicated environment.

A job with both depth and variety

If you thrive in a day-to-day life where complex and challenging tasks go hand in hand with more routine ones, please read on.

As an aviation investigator you will become a central part of the work to investigate events within commercial aviation and private aviation. The tasks may take place in Denmark, Greenland, the Faroe Islands and abroad. At the site of an accident or incident you will play an important role in creating an overview, collecting relevant information and collaborating with the involved parties, which typically include the police and search-and-rescue services, airlines, operators, private pilots, aircraft manufacturers and media.

You will both lead and actively participate in the investigative work, which can take you far geographically and academically. It will give you a broad network, both nationally and internationally. Your work has one clear purpose: to prevent future events through thorough analyses and targeted safety recommendations to authorities, manufacturers and operators in the aviation industry.

The results of your investigations are communicated in reports and memorandums, so the experiences can benefit the entire industry and the public.

In addition to the investigative work itself, you will also contribute to our ongoing tasks, including collaboration in the European network of accident investigators and our other international obligations.

What we see in our new colleague

We are looking for an experienced technical investigator with an aviation technical background Do you have a strong technical or engineering background and experience from the aviation industry? Then you may be the technical investigator we are looking for. We are seeking a profile with broad technical understanding of aircraft and their systems, including aircraft with fly-by-wire, analog and digital cockpits, as well as piston engines, turboprop and turbofan engines.

You must be able to analyse complex technical problems and translate technical data into investigation results. Knowledge of the technical and operational regulatory framework of aviation is an advantage, just as experience with drone operations, project management and digital handling of large data sets will be a strength. You thrive in a small team where collaboration is highly valued, and where the internal work culture is informal, open and based on mutual respect.

You must be able to keep calm under pressure, as the investigation work requires you to make decisions under pressure and maintain an overview in complex situations. You must be able to collaborate with many different actors and be analytical, creative and systematic in your approach. It is important that you communicate clearly and precisely – both in Danish and English, in writing and speech.

Recruitment process and employment

How the process works We expect to conduct the first round of interviews on 19 October and the second round on 23 October. As part of the selection you will be asked to complete both a personality test and a written assignment before the second interview round.

As part of your introduction to the job you will participate in a three-week basic course in accident investigations at Cranfield University in England, which takes place from 11 to 29 January 2027.

Employment is in accordance with the current circular on the organizational agreement for certain specialists and managers in the Ministry of Transport area (Joint decision no. 105-25). After you have completed the basic training and the subsequent onboarding, you will enter a standby service, which is rewarded with a supplement.
