About the job

Are you a doctor with solid experience in internal medicine from clinical work and research experience, and with an interest in medicines and the role of health authorities? Are you motivated to translate professional knowledge into unbiased assessments that matter for patients across Denmark and Europe? Then you may be the doctor we are looking for at the Danish Medicines Agency.

With us you work at the crossroads between clinical practice, research and regulatory work. Together with national and European experts you assess the effects and safety of new medicines and contribute to decisions that affect the healthcare system and patients across borders.

About us

The Danish Medicines Agency is Denmark's national authority for approval and supervision of medicines, medical devices and clinical trials. We are about 650 employees at the Danish Medicines Agency on Islands Brygge in Copenhagen. We collaborate daily with the other European medicines agencies and the European Medicines Agency EMA (European Medicines Agency). We participate in various professional working groups, and Denmark has members in all the European medicines committees.

The position is placed in the Section for Human Medicines where we currently have 23 doctors with backgrounds in different specialties and/or industry, 3 biostatisticians, a veterinarian and a pharmacist. Your closest colleagues will be doctors, pharmacists and statisticians. We assess and approve new medicines and indications and follow them throughout their life cycle.

Denmark is already responsible for many medicines, and we see a marked development with new, innovative treatments, which require solid clinical and scientific expertise to assess.

Your daily life with us

As a doctor in the Danish Medicines Agency you work with professional assessments that form the basis for regulatory decisions about medicines. You analyze clinical trial data and assess whether new medicines have documented effect, an acceptable safety profile and a relevant place in treatment.

You will among other things

  • Assess the documentation behind new medicines for approval and new uses of existing medicines.
  • Contribute to regulatory assessments of medicines’ effects, safety and use.
  • Prepare professional recommendations and decision foundations for national and European authority processes.
  • Conduct risk assessments in connection with shortage situations and special supply challenges, including for emergency preparedness.
  • Answer complex pharmacological questions from citizens, healthcare professionals, the press and political stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with European medicines authorities and EMA on evaluation of new medicines.

The position gives you the opportunity to work with medicines long before they reach clinical practice and to contribute to decisions that affect many patients at once.

Your education, experience and personal qualifications

  • You are a specialist in internal medicine or a doctor with equally solid and broad clinical experience in internal medicine.
  • You have an interest in medicines and in translating clinical knowledge into professional assessments.
  • It is an advantage if you have research experience, preferably a PhD.
  • You have an interest and flair for evaluating clinical research and scientific documentation.
  • You thrive with complex issues that require both professional depth and pragmatic solutions.
  • You are motivated by interdisciplinary collaboration and an international working environment.
  • You master English at a high level both orally and in writing.
  • You can combine and balance the detailed with the pragmatic.
  • You have good collaboration skills, and you can work purposefully, maintain overview and meet deadlines.

We offer

A meaningful regulatory job where you translate clinical experience and scientific insight into professional assessments that support safe and well-documented treatment options for patients.

You get

  • Opportunity to influence the assessment of new medicines at national and European level.
  • A work life at the crossroads between clinic, research, regulation and health policy.
  • Insight into the latest treatments and technologies, often years before they become part of clinical practice.
  • Close collaboration with highly specialized colleagues, including doctors, pharmacists, statisticians and other experts.
  • An international everyday life with strong professional relationships to EMA and other European medicines authorities.
  • Good opportunities for competence development in regulatory science, medicine assessment and regulatory work.
  • A job in Copenhagen, with flexible work arrangements, and where you can largely plan your own day. Our work climate is informal and filled with engagement, humor and mutual respect.

You will become part of an organization with high professional integrity, where independence, quality and social responsibility are central values.

About the employment

You will be employed as department doctor after the applicable agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Young Doctors or another relevant professional organization. At the Danish Medicines Agency we make decisions in regulatory cases, and therefore it is important to us that our impartiality cannot be questioned. Therefore it is a condition of employment at the Danish Medicines Agency that you do not own shares, units or similar in a pharmaceutical and/or medical device company. If you own shares in a pharmaceutical and/or medical device company, they must be divested.
