About the job
Live radio’s pulse. The magazine’s depth. P1, when the day demands more than news.
Live radio’s pulse. The magazine’s depth. P1, when the day demands more than news.
Public service is more important than ever. When facts can be regarded as debate by some, while others can speculate in a fragmented and polarized media reality, P1 must be a place where listeners meet credibility, perspective, openness and qualified conversation.
If you, like us at DR, are passionate about public service in a wild time, then read on
P1 is developing a new morning format that will help renew live radio on the channel. Therefore we are looking for hosts who, together with a new editorial team, will create a current, lively and engaging program where today’s most important and fascinating stories are unfolded with strong sources, personal hosting energy and clear live handling.
The program should take the best from P1’s magazine tradition — depth, perspective, conversation and journalistic weight — and release it in a modern and generous live form. When the day calls for more than news updates, when context, overview, surprising angles and inviting conversations are needed, the new program should be where listeners turn.
We are therefore seeking hosts who as a team can give the program a clear identity, so listeners know what they get and why they should listen.
A program with relevance, depth and pulse
The new morning format should be able to move across social topics such as health, history, language, media, science and politics.
Sometimes the program will seize what develops during the broadcast. Other times it will make room for longer conversations because a story demands it. A common thread is that listeners should want to hear the hosts’ take on today’s most important stories and be equipped to continue the conversation themselves.
The program should be lively without creating superficial noise, deep without becoming heavy, and surprising without prioritizing form over content.
You must be able to do more than just run the show
As a host you will become a central part of the program’s expression. We are looking for hosts who can bring their knowledge, curiosity and judgment into play — and at the same time join a strong team.
You must be able to interview sharply, listen actively and think with the guest. You should be able to motivate why a story is important, react to new information as it comes, and help develop angles, sources and conversations together with the editorial team.
We are not looking for uniform profiles. Perhaps you are strong at keeping a live format together as the main host. Perhaps you have special knowledge in society, science, history, media or international affairs. Perhaps you have a more direct and contemporary live tone. Or perhaps you are the co-host who can ask the odd question and challenge the premise in a way that makes the listener wiser.
The most important thing is that you can be personal without being private, knowledgeable without being didactic, and free in form without losing facts, nuance and precision.
You must want to build a new format
The program will be a living everyday format, where the hosts not only show up and broadcast. You must also help develop stories, find sources, prepare your own tracks, think in live moments and contribute to the program’s tone.
We work with a model where several hosts participate in the broadcast daily, while the last host prepares upcoming broadcasts and longer strands. It requires discipline, curiosity and a desire to create something together.
It is an advantage if you have experience with live radio, live TV, podcasts, interviews, current affairs or magazine journalism. But we are also interested in new voices who can help move P1’s tone.
We offer
An important role in working to ensure strong public service in the future through a central role in developing P1’s new live expression. As well as the opportunity to put a clear hosting imprint on a new format.
You will become part of a strong journalistic environment and will work closely with the editor, producers and co-hosts on a format where hosting chemistry, knowledge, conversation and live sense are crucial. In a department that already produces strong debate, culture and fact-based programs for audio and TV.
How to apply
Send a short motivated application, CV and 2-3 examples of audio, video or other hosting or interview work. Also feel free to include a short note about what you think a modern P1 live format should be able to do.
Selected candidates will be invited continuously to host tests/casts.
Application deadline: 23 October.
Diversity
DR wants to reflect all of Denmark. Therefore we encourage all qualified candidates to apply — regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, social background or life experience. We believe that different perspectives strengthen journalism, hosting and the community we build with listeners.
Application deadline: 17 October 2026
Location: DR City, Emil Holms Kanal 20, 0999 Copenhagen C
