Education Manager for the Construction Education at VIA, Campus Aarhus C

At VIA Construction we educate the builders, construction technicians, and surveying and mapping technicians of the future. Our ambition is to educate graduates with strong professional expertise who are motivated for and ready to make their mark on the construction industry both nationally and internationally and to actively contribute to its development.

To succeed as best as possible in this task, we currently lack an educational leader.

Leadership with us takes place both locally with proximity to employees, students, the daily educational practice and other relevant local actors, but it also takes place across our campuses, where we collaborate on common development tasks and priorities.

Present leadership with local responsibility

With reference to the Dean of Education, you will, together with one other educational leader, be responsible for VIA Building’s offering of the Building Construction Technician education at Campus Aarhus C, which is centrally located in Aarhus.

You will initially have personnel responsibility for about 20 employees and a central task in ensuring present leadership as well as creating direction and local momentum in close dialogue with the staff.

As part of the VIA Construction leadership team you will have a special opportunity to drive and develop the local education in Aarhus while actively contributing to the joint development of construction educations across our four campuses.

You will become part of a strong leadership community of a total of five educational leaders and a Dean of Education, where we together take responsibility, set direction and translate ambitions into action.

Educations for the construction industry of the future

The construction industry is changing, and our educations must develop in step with it. Therefore we work purposefully to develop educations that match the industry’s needs and contribute to its development. Sustainable development and digitalization are central agendas, where we focus, among other things, on circularity, renovation and transformation, new materials, generative AI and better construction processes.

Our teaching is inspired by problem-based learning and takes its starting point in our shared didactic principles of well-founded, coordinated and student-centered teaching, and we work in a structured way with professional learning communities and continuous development of our pedagogical and didactic practice.

Your task will be to translate the shared ambitions and ongoing initiatives into concrete practice. You do this in close collaboration with the Education Leader Team, which consists of five educational leaders, and with the approximately 90 engaged staff at VIA Construction.

You must also be proactive in your relations with the construction industry and other partners and contribute to VIA Construction being a visible and relevant actor in the professional and societal debate.

• is visible, present and clear in their communication and personnel leadership
• sets direction and frameworks, is dialogue-oriented and brings the staff’s competencies into play in the best possible way
• can create local engagement and decisive action and at the same time contribute to joint solutions across campuses
• can prioritize tasks and maintain an overview in a complex and sometimes busy daily life
• has strong collaboration skills and builds trusting relationships where we together take responsibility, push boundaries and learn
• has the courage to be clear about values and priorities and is curious about new possibilities and collaborations

We emphasize that you

• have leadership experience from the construction industry, the educational world or another relevant organization
• have in-depth knowledge of or a strong interest in the construction industry and its current development agendas
• have knowledge of the educational field and an understanding of the interaction between education, profession, research and practice
• have experience leading knowledge workers and creating development through involvement and clear priorities
• have a relevant higher education degree, preferably supplemented with continuing education in leadership

Conditions of employment

Salary and employment terms are in accordance with the Agreement on the Employment of Managers at institutions within teaching, education and research under the Ministry of Higher Education and Science. The position is a permanent position with no fixed maximum working time.

Your main workplace is Campus Aarhus C, but you should expect some activities across the Central Denmark Region, so a driving license and your own car are an advantage.

About Building Educations

• Building educations include Building Construction Technician (Danish and international), Building Technician (Danish and international) and Surveying and Mapping Technician.
• The Building Construction Technician education is by far the largest and is offered in Horsens, Aarhus, Holstebro and Randers.
• There are a total of about 1,400 students connected to the construction educations, and the annual intake is about 430 students.
• There are about 90 staff in total
• The construction educations are a significant part of VIA University College, which is Denmark’s largest professional university college
