About the job
Pedagogical staff member with an interest in metal and mechanics for STU Syddjurs
Do you want to create well-being, development and new opportunities for young people through meaningful workshop work?
Can you build a safe relationship with young people with special needs? Do you also have skilled hands and experience with metalworking, welding, mechanics or other practical workshop activities?
Then you may be the new colleague we are looking for on our workshop line at STU Syddjurs.
We are creating a new position as a result of increasing student numbers. You will become part of the workshop line and will have the metal workshop as your primary area of work. Here you will use both your pedagogical professional skills and your practical competencies to create activities, learning and development that have meaning for the individual young person.
With us, workshop work is not just a goal in itself. It is an pedagogical tool to strengthen the students' self-esteem, work identity, social skills and belief in their own possibilities.
For more information about STU Syddjurs you can visit www.stu-syddjurs.dk.
About the workshop line and your role
The workshop line consists of three primary areas: the wood workshop, the metal workshop and the green outdoor team.
You will primarily be attached to the metal workshop. Here you plan and carry out practical and development-oriented activities together with the students. We work, among other things, with smaller productions for use or sale.
The finished product is visible and clear, but even more important is the process and the recognition, mastery and pride that the student experiences along the way.
Activities may include, among others
- Basic metalworking
- Welding tasks
- Repair and maintenance
- Mechanical tasks
- Design and production of smaller products
- Working with tools, machines and materials
- Structuring work processes from idea to finished product
You do not need to be a trained blacksmith or mechanic. However, we expect you to have practical skills and experience so you can safely and independently develop and carry out relevant activities within metal, welding and possibly mechanics.
If you have additional craft skills or an interest in the wood workshop and the green area, we see that as an advantage.
Pedagogy comes first
A large part of our students have previously had significant challenges with well-being, participation and attendance in school and education programs. Therefore, planning always starts from the individual student's prerequisites, resources, daily form and individual learning goals.
We often say that our work here is 80 percent pedagogy and 20 percent teaching and workshop professionalism . You should be able to see yourself in that.
You will as a starting point be responsible for teaching and activities on the workshop line three days a week. The remaining days you join other subjects, activities and cross-cutting tasks.
All staff at STU Syddjurs can over time be attached to other lines or activities. We do not expect you in advance to have professional competences in all our areas. We do, however, expect you to be flexible, curious and willing to acquire new skills as well as assist colleagues across the organization.
Who are you?
We are primarily looking for the right person with the right attitudes.
You have good pedagogical expertise and a natural ability to be with young people. You can build trustful relationships and actively use the relationship to motivate the young person to learn and develop.
You are patient without becoming passive and ambitious on the student's behalf without setting unrealistic demands. You can create calm and direction, even when a student becomes uncertain, withdraws or reacts to demands and changes.
At the same time, you want workshop-based work. You thrive on translating ideas into concrete activities and products where students with very different prerequisites can participate and experience that their efforts have value.
We imagine that you have several of the following competences
- You have a pedagogical education.
- You are good at forming relationships and using them actively in work with the young people's development.
- You have a strong interest in practical and workshop-based work.
- You have experience with metalworking, welding, mechanics or related areas.
- You can develop activities where students with different prerequisites can participate meaningfully.
- You can work independently, in a structured and development-oriented way and take responsibility for your tasks.
- You can apply your pedagogical expertise reflexively and work systematically with goals, documentation and evaluation.
- You preferably have experience with young people with special needs and with the age group 17 to 25 years.
- You have an appreciative and respectful approach and can maintain calm, overview and professionalism in complex situations.
- You actively contribute to professional reflection and collaboration with your colleagues.
- You are engaged, flexible and adaptable and contribute with humor and positive energy where possible.
- You can take on the role of contact person for three to four students.
- You can navigate the tension between quality of life, personal development and development of work identity.
- You preferably have knowledge of or training in KRAP.
We are fully aware that no prospective employee can check all boxes. The most important is that you have the pedagogical human approach, relational competences and the desire to use workshop work as a springboard for the young people's development.
