Educator sought for a sweet 11-year-old boy – help him feel safe during the school day (Kastrup)

Are you calm, patient and good at building relationships at a child's pace? Then we have a meaningful task for you.

We are looking for a caring and accommodating substitute for a sweet 11-year-old boy who needs support to find security when meeting school.

The boy has had school refusal since first grade and is now in 6th grade. He needs a secure adult who can accompany him from home to school and help him have good experiences with being there – without unnecessary pressure and with respect for his daily condition.

It is a task for you who know that small steps can make a big difference, and who want to build a trusting relationship over time.

About the boy

The boy has autism and OCD. He is talkative, curious and has great knowledge about, among other things, gaming, YouTube and anime. There is therefore plenty of opportunity for good conversations and to get to know him through his interests.

He is sensitive to demands and expectations, and even small demands or repetitions can make a otherwise good morning difficult. Therefore he needs an adult who can stay calm, be flexible and follow his signals rather than pressuring him.

He knows the school's area and, among other things, loves the playground, the sandbox and the swings. He also has class mates whom he is glad to see.

What is the task about?

You come two weekdays a week from 9:00–12:00.

You meet the boy at home in the morning and accompany him to school. The transportation takes place either on the family’s cargo bike or by taxi.

At school, your most important task is to create security and start from what he can contain that day. Perhaps you spend time on the playground, play in the sandbox or on the swings. Perhaps you meet some of his classmates during a break, or perhaps you take a small step closer to the class.

The most important thing is not necessarily that he enters the classroom, but that he has good and secure experiences with the school.

You should be able to rejoice in small progress and understand that some days it is enough just to be there together.

Afterwards you accompany him back home again.

The position starts with 2 x 3 hours per week, and the effort is evaluated continuously in collaboration with the family.

We are looking for someone who

• Has a pedagogical background or relevant experience with school refusal, autism, OCD or similar.
• Is calm, patient and accommodating – also when things do not go as planned.
• Can meet a child on their own terms without pressuring or setting unnecessary demands.
• Is good at reading signals and adapting to the situation.
• Can create security and positive experiences around the school.
• Can be persistent without becoming insistent.
• Is keen to invest in the relationship and get to know the boy – also through his interests.

You do not need to have a solution to school refusal from day one. The most important is that you meet the boy with calm, curiosity and respect and want to make a difference through the relationship.
