About the job
New children are moving into Søhuset, and therefore we are expanding our staff group. We are looking for pedagogues who want to become part of our professional community and help create a safe and developing everyday life for the children.
At Søhuset, children and young people from 0–18 years with significant physical and cognitive disabilities live. They require extensive support for care, well-being and development – around the clock.
With us, development can take many forms. It can be a child who becomes better at showing what it wants. A look, a movement or a sound that we become better at understanding. Or a child who can participate a little more in an activity or handle a situation that previously was difficult.
It requires pedagogues who are curious about what they see – and who want to explore it together with others.
What will you do? At Søhuset care, well-being and pedagogy are closely linked. You will become part of a staff group that collaborates to create predictable and safe frameworks where the children and young people can thrive, participate and develop.
An ordinary workday can include, for example
- Structured support: You help create calm, overview and predictability through clear communication, recognizability and structure.
- Care and nursing: Most children and young people need significant support for personal care, meals and everyday tasks. Care is an important part of the work and at the same time an opportunity for relationship, communication and development.
- Pedagogical activities: You plan activities based on each child’s needs and development level – e.g., play, sensory activities, outings or small everyday activities that support participation, well-being and development.
- Arousal regulation and relationship work: You are curious about what lies behind the child’s reactions and behaviour, and you adapt demands, frameworks and your own approach when a child is having difficulty.
- Professional collaboration: You participate in team meetings, staff meetings and supervision, where we share observations, set goals and together decide the professional direction for the individual child.
At Søhuset we are typically 6 staff members together around 8 children and young people. You will often have a special focus on 1–2 children at a time. This makes it possible to be close to the individual child, build strong relationships and adapt support to the child’s needs and daily form.
Sometimes the pace is fast, and other times you must be able to stay in the slow pace and wait for a small initiative or signal from a child. It requires presence, patience and the ability to adapt to the individual child.
Professionalism, we develop together We work based on a common professional direction with, among other things, neuro-pedagogy and Low Arousal as a starting point.
A large part of the children communicate without spoken language. Therefore we must be able to notice the small signals and be curious about what the child’s behaviour tells us. We also work with alternative and augmentative communication.
We do not always have the same understanding of what we see – and we don’t need to. In team meetings we use our different observations and perspectives to become wiser about the child, set goals and decide in which direction we should work together.
We use team meetings, supervision, documentation and ongoing sparring in daily practice to examine our practice. We do not expect you to have all the answers. But we do expect you to be curious, to reflect on your own practice and to dare bring what you see into the shared professional discussion.
“I think it is a good place to be. There is a lot of influence, and I am involved in things in everyday life. It is a nice place to be – both the children and the relationship you get with them through the work, and your colleagues mean a lot for everyday life.”
- Pedagogue, Søhuset
We offer At Søhuset we emphasize a safe and helpful community where we support each other in tasks and share responsibility in daily life.

“It is important that new colleagues are welcomed well and have time to settle into the house, and that there is follow-up on how they are doing – that they are taken under wing. It is not expected that you can do everything after a week.”
- Pedagogue, Søhuset
We are looking for a pedagogue who…
- is educated as a pedagogue
- wants to work with children and young people with significant and permanent disabilities
- sees care and nursing as a natural and important part of the pedagogical task
