About the job

Are you driven by the detective work that comes with being professionally curious? Dare you think differently? Do you have the desire and courage to help develop both pedagogical practice and work culture, then maybe you are the one we are looking for!

We are honest about where we stand

We believe that open and honest dialogue is the way forward, which is why we also start by saying that Spurvetoften is currently under intensified supervision from the social supervision authority.

That means we are in the middle of a development process where we need to do some things differently and some things we need to do even more of.

We have, among other things, a strong focus on developing our professionalism, where we are sending several teams to the Autism pilot training - the first cohort starts in November. This is something all employees can apply to be part of, as we will continuously send teams out to upskill as a whole.

We have internal courses, called GRO courses where our subject matter experts, who also work in the VISO area, share knowledge about the target group and the pedagogical approaches and methods, e.g. KRAP, LA2 or neuro-pedagogy.

We are in a time of cultural change, with a particular focus on Professionalism and Collaboration – Collaboration is an important part of making professionalism flourish, and they go hand in hand when we need to be curious about practice and about each other.

We would like to invite you on a cultural journey which is part of when citizens’ needs change, compared to what they were 10-15 or 20 years ago. We have received a number of new and typically younger citizens over the past years, who call for new thinking. They have different desires and needs than the citizens we have known all their lives. This means that the work contains a great variety in the pedagogical work, where the whole toolbox is dusted off or upgraded.

It may be a sensory level where we need to arouse arousal and support through a predictable, secure and calm routine, underpinned by the good relationship and approach to the citizens. It may also be where we need to turn up the music, create social events like Christmas lunch, concerts or nerd club.

The most consistent is the relational work! It is the foundation for identifying what the citizen’s needs and wishes are, as citizens do not always know them or have difficulty communicating them.

As a pedagogue at Spurvetoften you also use your educational professional skills every day, for example when you meet colleagues in the morning and together make a plan for the day, based on the citizens’ needs/ risk assessments, etc.

You will experience a high degree of influence in your work. We welcome new ideas and initiatives and you can always have a dialogue about how and what we can do.

What is Spurvetoften?

Development Center Spurvetoften is a residential facility in Vejle Municipality.

With us, adults from 17 years old up to 80+ live, primarily with an autism spectrum disorder, or with a disability that benefits from the same approach. This is often combined with developmental disabilities or other diagnoses. We are a center with 37 residents spread across five departments on two sites. We work closely with our activity and learning offerings where most of our residents have their daily routine.

At Spurvetoften we work from a pedagogical individualized approach to each resident. The diversity of the target group is broad and therefore there can be residents with and without language. The individual approach can include tools such as various communication systems, such as boardmaker, concrete aids, sign language, body language, affective transmission.

Relational work is the cornerstone of the work with our residents. It often comes from a structured approach, where you show safety and predictability. It opens up the detective work where we together with the residents can explore what they find exciting and how we together create the best day for them. This can be expressed through sensory work, activities or dialogue with the residents, depending on who they are and how they feel.

We work with method descriptions to ensure predictability in the work with and around the residents. Since cognitive levels are very varied you will therefore meet everything from tasks in personal care, to bus driving to Givskud Zoo, accompaniment to hospital visits and support in ADL . This provides a good opportunity for differentiated tasks, which we experience helps strengthen professionalism and the working environment.

Since our residents are challenged and placed at all cognitive levels, there may be outward aggressive and self-harming behavior.

Our Core Value

We know that professionalism and collaboration are the two most important qualities for good cooperation with the citizens. For us, the core task is “My everyday life is my life! – a life with meaning, a life with success, a life where potential is released.” It obliges us to collaborate with the citizens to create a daily life where well-being in everyday life counts, every day, for life .

We therefore seek you who;

  • Are brave in relation to thinking anew and curious about colleagues and citizens
  • Have experience within the special field
  • Identify with professionalism and collaboration
  • Take pride in leading and helping others
  • Work in a preventative conflict manner, for example through LA2

We offer you

  • A job with varying tasks, with a strong focus on collegial sparring throughout the day.
  • Internal training based on autism, medication, pedagogical approaches such as LA2 etc.
  • Ongoing supervision at our staff meetings
  • Leadership located at each site
  • Influence on your working environment and openness to ideas

What your future colleagues hope for from you, or what is important for you to know

"I think it’s important to emphasize that no one can know everything from the start! You develop a lot in the job and in interaction with both colleagues and citizens. You become wiser about the citizens all the time, and the knowledge and experiences you gain you bring into play all the time."

"Good collaboration skills are a must! It is a must that you are creative and dare to involve yourself with the citizens. You should also not be afraid to dive into practical tasks."

"Ask questions! There are no stupid questions, no matter how banal you may think they seem."

"Which colleague do I want? One who is joyful and has humor, and wants to work with the citizens we have."
