About the job
Ådalskolen seeks a community-oriented, skilled, engaged and good adult, who is also a trained educator - Do you want to help show that potential exists in all children?
We are looking for an engaged and academically strong educator for Ådalskolen, a special school where we work with students who have difficulties in communication, language, developmental disorders, intellectual disabilities as well as diagnoses and syndromes to varying degrees. We are specifically seeking an educator with a kindergarten class leader role for one of our ASK classes.
You will become part of a quite special community. A community that you can feel when you walk through the doors of our school. We might as well say it as it is: we are a special provision with an important agenda. We are here to develop all students – personally, socially and academically. We always have ambitions on behalf of the individual student, regardless of starting point. We know that development requires trust, and we strive to earn it. Students and parents must be able to rely on us, so we say what we mean – and do what we say.
Who are you
You have a teaching qualification, preferably supplemented with experience and/or further education in the special education area – and ideally familiarity with Sign Supported Danish (Tegn Til Tale).
You have experience in using communication aids and working with children with nonverbal communication.
You can see yourself working with a student group where diversity is great and includes students with multiple mental and physical disabilities, autism and developmental delays, nonverbal communication, etc. The students' support needs are therefore also very different and include personal care.
You will bring a didactics that is affirming, resource-oriented and context-focused. As kindergarten class leader you have the necessary resources and competencies to meet the students' needs, and you can create safe, predictable, creative and supportive learning environments as well as form professional, caring relationships with the students.
You see movement in the students' daily lives and outdoor learning as natural and important parts of the students' learning. The school is located in a nature-rich area with many opportunities for experiences and learning.
You should have a desire to engage in interdisciplinary teamwork with educators, teaching assistants and support staff, where it is typically the Kindergarten Class Leader who creates the structure and leads, but also in a team where everyone is important contributors and close partners in the work around the children, and we place a high value on close collaboration between all professional groups.
Who are we
Ådalskolen and STU Ringsted are a dynamic and flexible workplace with about 92 children at the school and 15 young people in our STU. We are about 94 dedicated and good colleagues, all focused on a good work environment. We work in self-organising teams, where we collaborate and support each other across management and teams in daily life. In addition, we offer a school with a unique location in nicely furnished premises with fantastic outdoor areas and good transport opportunities. You can read more about Ådalskolen and STU Ringsted on the school website www.aadalskolen.dk.
We are looking for you who
- Has solid experience with special education – preferably from the school sector
- Is engaged, empathetic and patient
- Is robust and able to maintain calm and a professionally grounded overview, even when students' behavior is outwardly disruptive or self-harming
- Has extensive knowledge of and interest in working with children and nervous systems
- Is well-versed in neuroeducation and developmental psychology
- Focusses on the importance of close, caring relationships, co-determination, respect and autonomy - also when challenged
- Understands that behind every child's behavior there is a positive intention
- An intention of communication and a desire to be met and understood
- Has strong competencies in autism-friendly pedagogy
- Is an exemplary practitioner with extensive hands-on experience – and can translate theory into action
- Can plan content within a school day and create structure for the student
- Is curious about the student's needs and brave enough to find small successes in complex problems
- Has heart and mind in the work – and believes that children do their best
- Can engage in parent collaboration, even when it is challenging
- Can work in a low-arousal and compassion-based way and can work from the fundamental principles of this:
Accountability principle: the person who takes responsibility can influence. As an employee you always bear responsibility for the relationship and take responsibility upon yourself.
Control principle: as an employee you must control yourself in order to collaborate with others
Emotion contagion: people influence each other with moods and feelings
- Is a team player and can engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with our resource team and external partners
- Can work independently, but at the same time sense in your own calm nervous system when you should seek help from colleagues
- Enjoys playing and would like to join us in the swimming hall
We offer
- A 37-hour position from November 1, 2026 – ideally earlier
- The kindest students, parents and colleagues
- A professionally strong team
- Leadership that will make Ådalskolen the best workplace
- A meaningful job where you make a difference every day
