About the job

Would you like to be part of a place where presence, structure and relationships create real development for children with special needs?

At Samala we work from a simple but powerful belief: children develop when they meet adults who see them, believe in them and can create calm and direction around them. Now we are opening a completely new, specialized residential care home in Knabstrup – and we are seeking trained pedagogues who want to help create everyday life where the children experience stability, care and opportunities for progression.

We are looking for trained pedagogues with experience in the area who are both passionate about professionalism and humanity, and who understand that the quality of the relationship is the foundation for everything we do

The children – our shared focus

The children in the service have significant development, behavioural and regulation challenges. Many fall within the autism spectrum, often with mild to moderate intellectual disability, and many can be strongly affected by demands, changes and sensory input. Some respond outwardly with frustration and restlessness, while others respond inwardly through withdrawal or overwhelm.

Therefore we work with close staffing ratios of 1:1 and 1:2, where you are a central adult in the child’s daily well-being. The children need support in almost all parts of everyday life – from structuring activities to emotional regulation, social guidance and participation in daily routines.

Personal care will also be required , as some of the children have a need for support in basic daily functions. It is a natural part of the work with us – and an important way to create security, dignity and continuity for the child.

Our virtues – what we stand for

In Samala we build our culture and professionalism on four fundamental virtues, which function as our common compass in both collaboration and pedagogical practice. They help us create psychological safety and an environment where we make each other better, because we meet both children and colleagues with curiosity, honesty and responsibility.

The virtues are not just on a shelf as something we talk about; they are something we live by every single day:

Self-knowledge over self-confidence

Hard work over intentions

Honesty over compassion

Facts over feelings.

They bind our professionalism and humanity together and give our work direction.

We offer you

We offer a job where you make a real difference – every day. A job where relationships, professionalism and integrity go hand in hand, and where you become part of a strong community that wishes one another well. You will receive supervision, professional sparring, clear pedagogical frameworks and colleagues who lift each other.

You also get the opportunity to help shape a completely new offering from the ground up – both the culture, collaboration and pedagogy. It is a rare opportunity to help build something meaningful.

Who are you?

You are a trained pedagogue and have a solid professional foundation. You can keep a level head when the child loses balance, and you are good at working in a structured, present way with an eye for the child’s resources.

You are curious – about the child, about yourself and about the subject. You can collaborate openly and honestly with your colleagues, and you contribute to an environment where we help each other become better. You are the type who can both laugh, maintain an overview and stand firm when required.

Your role – close to the children, strong in the discipline

As an employee at Samala you become one of the most important adults in the child’s life. You become the one who creates calm, keeps structure and helps the child understand their world – moment by moment.

You work from TEACCH principles, Low Arousal and a mentalization-based approach, and you actively use both your professional expertise and your personal calm in daily life.

Your task is about much more than methods: you must be able to mentalize, read situations and adjust yourself when the child cannot. You become a stable base in a daily life that can be unpredictable – but where the relationship between you and the child makes all the difference.

As part of a new offering you will also have the opportunity to shape the culture, practice and atmosphere in the department from the very beginning.
