Ejnar Mikkelsenila Aluarpia seeks two teachers

For our school in Ittoqqortoormiit, Ejnar Mikkelsenila Aluarpia, we are seeking two skilled and dedicated qualified teachers.

We are a school with about 65 pupils, 12 teachers and a school principal. We operate from 1st to including 10th grade, and a special class.

Ittoqqortoormiit, with a little over 300 inhabitants, is located by the world’s largest fjord, far north of the Arctic Circle. It is one of the most remote towns in the world. Here you can get a position where, in addition to contributing to the development of the school, you have ample opportunity to become a central player in the pupils' personal formation and academic development.

Job content

We are seeking a qualified teacher. Since the teaching group is small, one may expect to teach in subjects other than one’s main subject. In addition, one must be able to perform the form teacher function and other duties by agreement. We are looking for someone who can teach at all levels.

The tasks are carried out in close cooperation with the school's other teachers, management and other staff, as well as the school's parents.

Criminal record and child protection checks

The position is subject to the Act on the obligation to obtain criminal record and child protection checks. In accordance with the law, employment may only begin when the municipality has received satisfactory criminal record and child protection checks. We must therefore point out that the start date can only be agreed when the municipality has received the child protection check from the national police as well as the criminal record from the Police.

The child protection check is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the Police.

Salary and employment terms

Salary and employment are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Greenland Self-Government, according to the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Greenland Self-Government and the relevant negotiating organization.

Employment will be with a 3-month probation period.

Appointment

If you are currently a civil servant, you have the opportunity to continue as a civil servant under the applicable rules and agreements with us. For contract employment the probation period is 1 year. For both contract and civil service employment, earned salary seniority after passing teacher exam is taken into account. Employment is as a civil servant or under the "Agreement between Naalakkersuisut and IMAK for teachers in primary schools, etc."

Fixed-term appointment

You will be employed on special fixed-term terms pursuant to the agreement of 16 February 2007 on employment on special fixed-term terms. In addition, a non-pensionable severance payment of DKK 18,000.00 as an annual base amount as of 1 April 1991 per 12 months of employment. The amount is adjusted as a special allowance and amounts to DKK 20,253.67 annually as of 1 April 2017. The severance amount is paid monthly with the salary and deposited into a restricted account at a Greenlandic financial institution.

Relocation trip

Upon employment, a free initial travel for the employee and their family is provided, and at the earliest after 3 years a corresponding severance travel, as well as moving allowances in accordance with the applicable rules.

For both employment forms, the employee is covered by a separate group life insurance agreement.

Housing

For the position, staff housing may be allocated, for which a deposit and rent, utilities, etc. are paid according to the applicable rules for housing payments in Greenlandic Self-Government and municipal properties in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately at the commencement, a temporary vacant housing will be offered to employees with the right to vacant housing, for which rent, utilities, etc. are paid as above. The start date depends on when a staff housing is available. A relocation trip and moving of belongings are provided according to applicable rules.
