About the job
As an Embedded Software Developer at Saphe you will be part of product development and work with embedded software in Saphe's products. You follow solutions from the first prototypes to production, testing and updates of devices that are already in the hands of users.
A product team in development
Saphe is expanding the product team and is looking for an embedded developer who can take independent responsibility for development tasks and at the same time bring in new perspectives.
You will become part of a small, experienced team where collaboration is close and the path from technical discussion to decision is short. The team is used to a high degree of self-management, but as it grows, there will also be more structure around, among other things, planning, testing and documentation.
You won't be stuck in one area. Saphe works continuously with new products, components and communication technologies, and sometimes you will work with new hardware components and APIs before the solutions are fully mature.
Among other things, you will work with
- develop and maintain firmware, embedded applications and drivers, primarily in C
- develop embedded applications on Zephyr RTOS and Nordic Connect SDK
- work with wireless communication between devices, mobile app and other systems, for example via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or LTE
- integrate sensors, displays and other hardware components and participate in bring-up of new hardware
- work with embedded Linux and among other things Yocto, when the product and architecture require it
- write tests and contribute to automated testing in CI
- drive the solutions further toward production and collaborate with colleagues and external manufacturers to make them function stably in practice
Python will be used, among other things, for testing, tooling and automation, and you will also work with Git, code reviews and technical documentation.
Low power can also play a role. When software runs in a physical product, power consumption, communication, hardware and stability are closely linked.
Your experience
You don’t need to know Saphe's entire technology stack from the start.
The most important thing is that you have professionally worked with embedded software and have experience developing software that ends up in a physical product.
We particularly imagine that you
- have at least a couple of years of professional experience with embedded software development
- are strong in C and used to working close to hardware
- have experience with an RTOS and understand interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART and GPIO
- have worked with wireless communication and understand the challenges that come with it
- can communicate in Danish in everyday work and work with technical documentation in English
If you have worked with Zephyr RTOS, Nordic Connect SDK, embedded Linux or Yocto, that is an advantage.
The same applies to experience with, for example, low power optimization, display drivers, sensor integration, OTA updates, secure boot or factory testing.
If you have previously worked with IoT or other connected products, you will likely recognize many of the challenges.
How you work
You will become part of a team where people talk to each other and find solutions close to the task. Therefore you should be able to work independently without needing a heavy process around everything you do.
At the same time you should be eager to share your knowledge and get others' perspectives on your solutions. Code reviews, documentation and shared technical decisions are a natural part of the job.
You don't need to be the most experienced in the room. On the other hand you should be curious enough to dive in when a new component or technology lands on the table that you haven't worked with before.
And you should be comfortable with the fact that product development does not always move according to a perfect plan. Priorities can change, and some answers are only found when hardware and software are connected.
What you can expect at Saphe
You will get close to the whole product and collaborate with colleagues in areas such as hardware, mobile development, backend, design and quality.
R&D actively works with AI tools for code, testing, documentation and research. The expectation is that you are curious about where the tools can really improve development work.
The role is located at Saphe's office in Aalborg. There is the possibility of remote work on Tuesdays and Fridays, while the team generally meets at the office on the other days.
About Saphe
Saphe develops connected devices and digital solutions for motorists. The products combine hardware, embedded software, mobile app and backend, and product development therefore spans several technical disciplines.
For you as an embedded developer, this means that your code becomes part of a product that must function reliably for the user.
Shall we hear from you?
If you have several years of experience with embedded software and think it sounds interesting to get closer to IoT, hardware and product development, we would like to hear from you.
