About the job

Do you want to work closely with SSI’s management and help solve many varied tasks that span across the institute? Are you keen to use your professional skills in a daily life with both management and department support, legal tasks and coordination of larger areas of focus? Then the maternity cover in the Directorate Secretariat at Statens Serum Institut might be for you.

Your everyday life with us

You will become part of the Directorate Secretariat, which is a small and well-functioning secretariat of eight people – four academics, a secretary, two student assistants and a section leader.

The secretariat’s main task is to support SSI’s professional areas and contribute to the realization of SSI’s mission to prevent and combat infectious diseases and congenital diseases through research, surveillance, diagnostics and advice. We work, among other things, with department and management support, strategy work, coordination of larger professional tasks and legal tasks such as access to information, consultations and the act program.

One of our lawyers goes on maternity leave at the end of 2026, and we are therefore looking for a colleague for a maternity cover in the coming year. The tasks will be tailored to the candidate we hire, but can include, among other things:

  • Processing of access to information requests and responding to citizen inquiries in collaboration with the secretariat’s student assistant and lawyer
  • Preparation of draft bills, orders and consultation responses in collaboration with the institute’s other professional and supporting departments
  • Departmental support, including coordination of orders from the Ministry of the Interior and Health’s department and other authorities in the group
  • Management support, including preparation of cases and decision papers for SSI’s management as well as some PA tasks for the CEO
  • Coordination and follow-up on larger areas of focus, e.g. the Directorate Secretariat’s tasks within crisis management and emergency planning

The tasks are varied, and you will have great influence on how you solve and prioritize them. At the same time, there is always an opportunity for sparring with both the management and your colleagues in the Directorate Secretariat and the rest of the institute.

You will have a central position at SSI and will therefore have close and ongoing collaboration with, among others, the Ministry of Health and the Interior, other authorities in the group and professionals at SSI. You will also work closely with SSI’s management, so it is important that you thrive working close to top management and with tasks that often require a high degree of confidentiality and precision.

In the Directorate Secretariat we value an informal tone, trust, good collegiality and helping each other. We place a high priority on sparring and knowledge sharing, and we also have room for social activities – e.g. shared breakfast and SSI’s summer party, Oktoberfest and Christmas lunch.

Your education, experience and personal qualifications

We are looking for a colleague who is either newly graduated or has several years of experience – preferably from public administration and possibly with experience in management or department support.

We imagine that you have a legal, social science or other relevant higher education at a master's level.

We also place emphasis on the following

  • work in a structured manner, take responsibility and focus on finding solutions
  • enjoy and have the ability to collaborate with many different professional groups and across the organization
  • can adapt when tasks and priorities change
  • are a strong communicator and convey information briefly, clearly and correctly

The most important thing for us is that you are motivated for the tasks and want to learn. You do not need to know everything from the start, but we expect that you are eager to familiarize yourself with new areas, ask questions and develop in the job.

We offer

We offer an exciting and varied job close to SSI’s management with broad contact to both professional environments at SSI, the department and other authorities. You will have the opportunity to develop professionally through varied tasks, close sparring and insight into the work in a large state institution with an important societal purpose.

You will get a flexible daily life with a good balance between work and leisure. SSI has a 37-hour work week including lunch break, flexitime agreement and the possibility to work from home up to two days a week.

In addition, SSI has an active staff association and sports club with, among other things, group training, fitness facilities, Friday bar and various social events.

SSI is located in central Copenhagen with good public transport options and free parking on campus.

About the employment

The position is therefore intended to be filled from 1 December 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is 37 hours per week. The employment starts from the date of hire and lasts for one year.

You will be employed under the applicable agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Association of Academics. Employment can be as a full-time advisor or senior consultant depending on qualifications.

Feel free to contact us

For more information about the position, call the section leader Mathilde Winkel Madsen at tel. 3268 8596 or lawyer in the Directorate Secretariat Anne Marie Nordby Michael at tel. 3268 3253.
