About the job

We are seeking a development-oriented occupational therapist who is passionate about working with young people in social psychiatry and who would like to develop our interdisciplinary treatment work with a focus on the sensory profile and sensory integration.

You will have great opportunity to influence and develop your professional practice and to help shape the occupational therapy and environmental therapeutic interventions in the department – in close collaboration with skilled colleagues.

About us

Pigernes Hus is part of Fårupgård Young People’s Center, a specialized 24-hour facility for children and youths aged 12-23 years with social and psychiatric difficulties. Fårupgård consists of 6 24-hour units, located in Vejle and Jelling, as well as an internal school.

Pigernes Hus is located in Brejning and is staffed for five girls aged 12-18 (23) years. We work with girls with primarily psychiatric difficulties and complex social and developmental challenges, such as anxiety, schizophrenia, autism, personality disorders and socio-emotional difficulties.

The target group is, among other things, characterized by self-harming and suicidal behaviour, single traumas, developmental traumas and neglect. We have a close interdisciplinary collaboration with the psychiatry in the Region of Southern Denmark.

We wish to continue to develop our treatment offer to the youths and strengthen the interdisciplinary professionalism in the department. Therefore we are seeking an engaged occupational therapist who wants to bring their expertise into play and help further develop our shared treatment practice.

For us, relational work is the foundation of the treatment. Regardless of professional background, you must be willing and able to create safe and trusting relationships with the youths and be an active part of their daily life. The relationship is the foundation for our treatment work and creates the opportunity to understand each young person, support her development and make both pedagogical and occupational-therapeutic interventions meaningful and relevant.

About the job

As an occupational therapist you will have a special role in developing and establishing occupational therapy workflows in the department together with your occupational therapy colleague. You will have the occupational therapy overview of the department’s five youths and be involved in ensuring that the occupational perspective naturally enters the treatment work.

Specifically, we want to develop work with the sensory room, sensory group and sensory profiles and integrate the sensory understanding into the daily environmental-therapeutic work. You will also contribute with an occupational-therapy perspective on, for example, ADL, activity balance, participation and development of the youth’s independence.

The pedagogical work is based on environmental therapy, neuroaffective analysis and mentalization-based pedagogy and low arousal, with a focus on individually tailored treatment in relation to the youth’s symptom and functioning level. We work in a structured way, with clear and predictable adults who ensure a secure everyday life, and through the department’s culture we create the best foundation for personal development. We work with a high degree of involvement in the youth’s own life, to the extent the youth can and wishes to.

You will participate in the daily staffing on equal terms with your colleagues, and it is in the interplay between relationships, daily life and professional interventions that we create coherence in the treatment.

We are looking for you who

  • Have strong relationship skills and can create trust and contact with youths with complex needs, while viewing the relationship as a prerequisite for the treatment work
  • Can maintain an overview in unpredictable situations and conflicts and are prepared to handle situations with extensive self-harm and possible suicide attempts
  • Work independently and proactively, but at the same time actively participate in a multidisciplinary team and are curious about perspectives from other professions
  • Can translate your professional knowledge into concrete practice, create an overview, initiate, follow up on and adjust interventions based on the individual youth’s needs
  • Can observe, reflect and communicate your professional assessments both orally and in writing and see documentation and knowledge sharing as an important part of the overall treatment work
  • Are motivated to receive and actively participate in internal and external supervision as well as teaching
  • Are prepared for shifts, including day and evening shifts, 24-hour on-call duties and working every other weekend
  • Hold a driver's license for a passenger car.

The most important thing is that you have strong relational skills, can see yourself as part of an environmental-therapeutic treatment environment and at the same time want to actively bring your own professional expertise into play.

We offer you

  • Opportunities to develop and qualify your tasks within the department’s existing professional framework
  • An occupational-therapy day off outside staffing every 4 weeks with your colleague
  • An interdisciplinary workplace where different professionalities are actively used in the overall treatment work
  • Ongoing supervision, professional sparring and teaching, organized with a focus on the youths’ needs and staff development
  • Opportunity to work with and develop your professional skills in a practice based on our existing environmental-therapeutic, mentalizing, neuroaffective and low-arousal approaches
  • An workplace focused on personal and professional development, where we actively use the Enneagram as a tool for self-insight, relational work and team development
  • An exciting workplace in constant development, where you become part of a close team around five youths
  • Participation in case supervision with an external psychologist every other week and external supervision in the staff group four times a year.
