About the job

Do you have a strategic mindset, thrive in taking responsibility for solutions, and are you motivated by being close to the decision-making room? Then you may be our new colleague in the Directorate Secretariat at the Environmental Protection Agency.

We seek an experienced and responsible colleague who can join a team that supports the directorate's work to ensure that more environmental policy is turned into reality in the real world to benefit nature and the environment, while we prepare decision briefs for the benefit of political decision-makers.

In the Directorate Secretariat you will be close to the highest priority cases in the agency, and you will need to build bridges across the directorate, decentralized units and our ministry. You will get the opportunity to come right into the top management room and are expected to actively contribute to solving difficult case complexities in the form of process management, cross-cutting strategic perspective and general guidance to the agency's leaders and employees.

About the Environmental Protection Agency

The Environmental Protection Agency is part of the Ministry of Environment and an authority in the environmental field. We work for clean water, safe chemistry and green production. Our core task is to translate environmental legislation into reality.

With our strategy »Proactive Environmental Protection Agency – One coherent authority«, a clear direction has been set: We translate professional knowledge into decision bases and political decisions into concrete results for the environment, nature, sustainable fishing, climate adaptation, citizens and businesses. It requires employees who can translate high professional knowledge into action – and who help make us one coherent authority across our many locations.

The Environmental Protection Agency is nationwide and has about 1,000 employees. The agency's headquarters with about 700 workplaces is housed in Odense. We are an organization that rests on a strong professional foundation, where new and experienced employees work, create and learn together. It is a common ambition to create fertile ground for a fun and exciting everyday life with a rich idea culture and a workplace that is one of the state’s best – while we keep an eye on nature and the environment in Denmark.

About the Directorate Secretariat

The Directorate Secretariat is located centrally in the agency and supports the entire agency in several ways, with directorate support, press as well as internal and external communication. The tasks include process and delivery management of directorate cases, sparring with the agency's management, quality assurance of ministerial servicing and close dialogue with the ministry.

There is close collaboration between the Directorate Secretariat and the agency's other offices, so you will have a broad collaborative interface with many different professional fields in the rest of the organization and thus get close to the environmental science work.

We are specifically seeking a colleague for these tasks

You will play a central role in ensuring solution-oriented and effective governance and cross-cutting prioritization of the directorate's cases. You will, among other things, have to:

  • Quality-assure cases and decision briefs before they are presented to the Management Board, so they are professionally robust.
  • Plan and drive special prioritized processes.
  • Proactively identify and seize cases that require cross-government coordination before they become critical.
  • Systematically follow up on progress and quality in selected strategic and cross-cutting cases.

The role requires that you can independently assess a case, including when a case is sufficiently informed to act on and whether the directorate's overall priorities and strategy are observed.

Qualifications

The approach to this position can be varied, so the right candidate will be hired either as a consultant or as a legal administrative officer depending on your qualifications and education. An unwavering requirement is that you have solid professional experience from a similar position, from an agency or other public body. In addition we emphasize that you:

  • Have extensive experience with political decision-making processes, administration, substantive case preparation and preparation of decision briefs for political/top management level – in state or municipal context
  • Are responsible and can act independently with a solid overview, even when deadlines are tight and cases are complex
  • Are proactive and actively seek out the tasks and the coordination that creates the most value for the agency
  • Have well-developed collaboration skills and extensive experience with cross-disciplinary collaboration in a large organization
  • Have strong analytical capacity and ability to set direction across
  • Have good organizational skills and flair for process management

We also expect that you are initiative-taking, that you thrive working both independently and in a team, that you can work with many different tasks and handle short deadlines. We are a workplace that values good cooperation and good morale, as our new colleague we hope you will contribute to that.

We offer

An exciting position where you will work at the top of a strong state agency and help make the Environmental Protection Agency one coherent authority. You will become part of a dynamic team consisting of several other directorate secretaries and a student assistant. We offer an exciting professional environment with a relaxed and informal tone, where we appreciate a friendly chat over lunch.

You will have good opportunities for professional and personal development in an organization that actively works with leadership, competencies and working methods, so we can deliver safely and effectively – even under change and pressure.

Salary and employment conditions

The place of employment will be at our headquarters: Environmental Protection Agency, Lerchesgade 35, 5000 Odense C.

Salary and employment terms are in accordance with the current collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Agreement) as either a legal administrative officer or consultant depending on your qualifications. The employment area is the Ministry of Environment with associated institutions.
