About the job

In a world where SFOs are mainstream, you now have the opportunity to work in a real after-school care home.

Now there is a rare opportunity to work in a real after-school care home, where development, relationships and after-school pedagogy are the foundations – in collaboration with our entire house and Nørrevangsskolen, which is our close partner. One is employed by KFUM, but there is a tradition that as a pedagogue in KFUM’s after-school care home you have about half of your hours at Nørrevangsskolen as a school pedagogue – currently it is in 0th grade.

We are a self-governing institution, which has a nursery, a preschool, after-school care and a youth club - so we have children and youths from 0-18 years. We create the red thread through the child’s life by focusing on connections with respect for each child’s and family’s feelings, norms and culture. The position is for our after-school care, but you must be prepared to view the house as a whole with coherence based on the children’s needs.

In daily life we emphasize relationships, well-being and a “calm nervous system” in a community where there is room for everyone and where everyone’s contribution is valued - this applies to children and families, but also collegially.

Our primary goal is to create positive traces in the child’s/family’s life - and this applies throughout the child’s life in KFUM’s Institutions.

It is very essential for us that you, in your view of children, humanity and education, work from the phrase: “Relationship before demands”.

Furthermore we expect that you

  • are prepared for us to have high expectations of your personal qualities, your professional expertise and your ability to reflect - including self-reflection.
  • are psychologically robust, adaptable, flexible, action-oriented - and have humor and the courage to tread on thin ice.
  • see challenges rather than problems.
  • are present, engaged and motivating in your interaction with the children.
  • can establish and support diverse play- and learning environments in relation to the needs and interests of the children group, based on the shared pedagogical foundation.
  • are committed, relationally strong and competent. This applies to both the relational work between you and the children, the children in the group and in cooperation with the parents.
  • can engage in a committed social collaboration with colleagues and management - where well-being and responsibility rest with the individual together with the community.
  • are a trained pedagogue.

KFUM’s Institutions are a self-governing institution, which gives us a somewhat broader scope for flexibility - and makes us a little special…in a good way. The nursery is normed for 14 children, the preschool for 40 children and in the after-school care there are 30 children currently.

We see the child and family as connected and we work with the whole as a prerequisite for creating the right development. The children in the after-school care all attend school at Nørrevangsskolen, which is located nearby. We have a close collaboration with the other after-school cares and day-care institutions in Nordbyen and with Nørrevangsskolen - so living and residing in Nordbyen is also experienced as interconnected.

In the after-school care we naturally emphasize that the children have their free time and that their time with us complements their time at school - and their learning and development in both places are connected. The staff in the nursery, preschool and after-school care work closely together and perceive themselves as a whole with the same goal for the children and solving the core task.

In this close collaboration, the youth club is also included, which is open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and is an offer to young people between 10 and 18 years. The staff here are hourly paid and have worked in the youth club as their secondary job. The collaboration between the after-school care and the youth club is desired to be further strengthened so that the children from the after-school care experience greater coherence when they become “old enough” to start in the youth club.

We are located on Glarbjergvej in Nordbyen, Randers. Although we are situated in a residential area with block buildings, we have large and good green areas with many square meters of playground, sports fields, hiding places - and we also have a swimming pool. We also have a minibus so that children in smaller groups can go on excursions. Nordbyen is characterized by diversity at all levels. We see this as a gift and set requirements for ourselves as professionals - and for our approach to things as people.

We encourage you to apply for this position regardless of your previous professional experience as a pedagogue, because our view is that you can learn the practical things, but the human qualities and values cannot be taught - you possess them and they are for us the most important.

As a pedagogue at KFUM’s Institutions you will work in an informal environment where professionalism and humor go hand in hand. All employees work according to year-round norms, so the schedule is generally known for a year at a time and meetings, events, etc. are planned for a year at a time. Time is set aside for individual non-schematic preparation for all employees. This creates a practice where the scheduled time with the children is actually time with the children, but there is also time for the other tasks.
