About the job
Administrative Department Head for Operations
Aalborg Municipality is in the midst of a development where operations not only concern making everyday life function, but about shaping the framework for the municipality of the future. As Administrative Department Head for Operations you will have a key role in one of the country’s largest municipalities with responsibility for an operations organization that each day leaves clear marks in citizens’ daily lives, the city’s development and the entire North Jutland’s cohesion.
As Administrative Department Head for Operations you will have a central leadership role in connecting strategic overview with an understanding of practical operations. You must create clear priorities, ensure robust and efficient task execution, and bring together an organization with many professional disciplines, cultures and ways of working around common goals and a strong shared direction. At the same time you must contribute to making Operations’ work more visible and understood, both internally in the municipality, politically and to citizens, businesses and partners.
You will be overall responsible for the Center for Parking, Guarding and Service, Green Operations and Ferries as well as Road Maintenance and Projects, three large operations departments each with their own department head and in total about 20 managers and 280 employees.
The tasks range from parking enforcement, security service and citizen-oriented service to operation and maintenance of roads, paths, green areas, nature and ferries, and they have great significance for the municipality’s accessibility, safety and physical framework. Operations is under continuous development and must be able to deliver stability in everyday life while the organization evolves in line with the municipality’s needs within, among other things, green transition, climate adaptation and resource use.
You report to the Director of Technology and Environment and become part of the administration’s management along with the department heads for Authority and Service, Planning and Urban Quality, Strategy and Management Support, as well as Projects and Coordination. Here you share responsibility for ensuring that the organization achieves the political results, and that the City Council and the political committees have a strong basis for making decisions. You also contribute to developing and anchoring the administration’s strategies and objectives.
An important task will be to strengthen the coherence between Operations and the rest of the administration and to build a bridge between the special operations organization and the shared leadership space in Technology and Environment.
You come with solid leadership experience from a larger and diverse organization where you have created direction, coherence and results through other leaders and employees. You understand the importance of the operations area for citizens’ daily lives and can translate political ambitions into prioritized, efficient and sustainable task execution.
You have insight into municipal organization and political support, preferably supplemented with experience from technical, operational or infrastructural areas, and you have a relevant higher education degree, preferably supplemented with a leadership education. You lead with trust and respect, are relationally strong and visible in your leadership, have political acumen and are decisive, also when difficult decisions must be made.
You are happy to stay close to practice, so employees, citizens and partners experience a curious, competent and present leader.
