About the job

Department Head for Budget & Accounting

Are you passionate about municipal finance, and motivated by achieving results through skilled staff? Do you have financial depth, strong relational competencies, and a desire to lead a well-functioning department? Then you might be our new Department Head for Budget and Accounting in Assens Municipality.

We are seeking a leader who can further develop a department with high professionalism and a strong collaborative culture. You may not have many years of managerial experience, but you do have solid financial expertise, natural assertiveness, and a willingness to take responsibility for both people, operations and development.

Who are we?

Budget and Accounting is part of Finance and Payroll and consists of 12 dedicated employees with responsibility for budgeting, budget follow-up, accounting, financial management, management information and financial advisory services.

We are characterized by a high level of responsibility and an informal tone. The employees work independently, help each other and actively contribute to the development of the area. We therefore seek a leader who values dialogue and professional sparring, and who can set a clear course and direction.

Assens Municipality has sound finances and strong financial governance. We want to continue to develop Budget and Accounting as a modern staff function that, through financial insight and close collaboration, supports the municipal administrations in succeeding with their core tasks.

Your role

As Department Head you will have daily leadership responsibility for Budget and Accounting with reference to the Head of Staff for Finance and Payroll.

You will be the line manager for the department's staff and will work closely with the two subject coordinators. At the same time you will be part of a well-functioning management team in the overall finance function.

Your main tasks will be to

  • Ensure high quality and secure operations in the budget, accounting and financial management area
  • Provide hands-on professional leadership through sparring, clear direction and employee development
  • Further develop financial management, management information and governance tools
  • Strengthen collaboration with the administrations so Budget and Accounting is perceived as a value-adding partner
  • Drive and support development initiatives, including digitalization and efficient workflows

You will be a visible leader who takes responsibility and stands behind the department's work. At the same time you will have an eye for when to lead from the front and when to give space and responsibility to the employees. In everyday life you will primarily lead and set direction, but you also thrive in stepping in to solve more complex professional tasks when the situation requires it.

Who are you?

We imagine that you

  • Have a relevant advanced education
  • Have solid financial expertise and experience with municipal financial management, budgets and accounting
  • Have knowledge of or experience from a politically led organization
  • Are a natural and trust-building sparring partner for both staff and managers
  • Are relationally strong, proper, present, and have an informal approach
  • Takes the leadership on, makes decisions and creates followership
  • Are interested in management information and development of the future digital finance function

You have high professional credibility and good personal leadership skills that enable you to lead a competent team.

Why choose us

Assens Municipality is a modern and well-run organization with a focus on a good working environment and its own health scheme for employees.

With us you get a well-functioning department, great influence and a strong leadership community with good opportunities for sparring.

We offer flexible work arrangements with the possibility of two remote workdays per week in a workplace characterized by trust and integrity.
