About the job

Would you like to make a difference for Copenhagen residents and lead a professionally strong department in Denmark's largest municipality?

As head of the Cross-cutting Nursing, you will lead a department with a central role in the development of nursing in the City of Copenhagen. The health reform and the elderly reform create new opportunities and requirements, which you will help translate into professional development in close collaboration with the rest of the organization and the health sector.

Your leadership role

You will lead a department with 16 employees with high health-professional expertise and great autonomy. You must create direction and frameworks for their work, allow space for professional judgment and be able to prioritize and make decisions.

The department helps set a common direction for nursing in Copenhagen and works, among other things, to translate and implement the upcoming quality standards for municipal nursing and basic palliation as well as health-professional documentation, medications, and wound care.

The health reform imposes new requirements to detect disease earlier and offer more treatment at home or close to home in collaboration with hospitals and general practice. The elderly reform emphasizes the importance of equal access to nursing and a cohesive cross-disciplinary effort, no matter where in the municipality the citizens live.

It requires close cooperation with home care, nursing homes, and municipal temporary placements. Together with the operation managers, you must ensure that professional standards and new solutions are implemented across the organization. You must be able to maintain implementation, challenge workflows, and see possibilities for simplification without compromising professional quality.

Your management responsibilities extend beyond your own department. You should contribute to the shared direction in the Health Center and to the cross-sector collaboration on the common population with hospitals and general practice in our health council. You should also be willing to set the agenda for the development of nursing nationally.

You will join a center where respect for each other’s professionalism and care for colleagues is an important part of the culture. You should help preserve and build on that.

About you

You have relevant management experience and can lead a department with strong professional competencies and great autonomy.

We emphasize that you have

  • clear leadership and decisiveness – you set direction, prioritize and create momentum
  • professional curiosity and trust – you can lead strong professional groups, ask questions and give space for employees' judgment.
  • strategic vision and political acumen – you can navigate in a politically led organization and see opportunities, interests and timing.
  • implementation power – you can translate professional development into solutions that work in practice.
  • strong collaboration skills – you build relationships and results across the organization and with external partners.

It is an advantage if you know the health sector and ideally municipal nursing. You do not need to be an expert in all department's areas, but you should be interested in them and be able to understand the connections.

A strong leadership community

As the department head, you become part of the center's leadership group. Together with the other department heads and the head of health, you share responsibility for the center's overall tasks and for developing collaboration and the common direction across the center.

The Center for Health has strategic, development and operational tasks and sets the professional frameworks for cohesive, high-quality health initiatives. We support professional development in the health sector, including nursing and rehabilitation, operate a number of city-wide health services and develop solutions in close collaboration with other municipalities, general practice and hospitals in our health council.

In the Health and Care Administration, our leadership is built on trust, professionalism, curiosity and solidarity. We have a strong focus on leadership development and on giving our leaders a good start. As a new leader you will receive a structured onboarding program and a mentor, and you will become part of a leadership environment with ongoing sparring and development of your leadership.
