About the job

Can you combine strategic overview with clear and present leadership? And would you stand at the forefront of employees who every day create good framework conditions for young people and adults with hearing loss?

Then you may be our new department head at Planethuset.

You will be responsible for a highly specialized residential facility, where you must ensure stable operations, high professional quality, and good conditions for both residents and employees.

Your task as department head

You will be responsible for the daily operations and personnel management of about 20 employees. You must create conditions for a coherent effort based on the residents' needs and the employees' competencies. Sign language is the residents' primary communication form, and there are also deaf employees. Therefore, knowledge of sign language is an advantage.

You must translate strategic goals into concrete practice, prioritise between acute needs and long-term tasks, and make decisions, even when everyday life is complex. This requires an overview, decisiveness, and a leadership style in which you both listen and set direction.

You also have responsibility for good cooperation with municipalities, relatives, guardians, and other partners. Here you must be able to bring together different perspectives with respect for residents' needs, rights, and development opportunities.

A strong leadership community and good conditions for the task

You will become part of a leadership community with the course supervisor and three department head colleagues across the Service for Children and Adults with Deafblindness and Hearing Loss. You will collaborate on leadership, professional quality, and operations and share responsibility for a well-functioning organisation.

Planethuset is open 24/7. Therefore, clear communication and continuity across shifts and functions is an important part of the leadership task.

You will receive support from a staff member with coordinating functions across the four departments. The role handles, among other things, operational tasks and gives you a better opportunity to prioritise leadership and development.

In addition, you will become part of a broader professional community in the Area of Communication and Special Pedagogy as well as in the Special Sector. Here you will have the opportunity to contribute with your experiences and gain inspiration across specialized services.

What you bring

We are looking for a leader who builds trust, takes responsibility, and can unite the staff around a common direction.

You do not need experience from a similar offering. On the other hand, you should be eager to learn about the specialized field and working with people with hearing loss.

It is a clear advantage if you have knowledge of or experience with sign language, as it is a central part of communication with both residents and deaf staff.

We expect that you

  • Have leadership experience and are comfortable with personnel management, including setting boundaries, following up, giving feedback, and handling difficult conversations.
  • Ensure overview and stable operations and can prioritise when daily life is unpredictable.
  • Can translate strategic goals into clear daily priorities.
  • Collaborate constructively with staff, residents, relatives, guardians, municipalities, and other partners.
  • Are attentive, but can stand firm and make difficult decisions.
  • Active in promoting high professional quality, well-being, and psychological safety.
  • Contribute to the leadership community with sparring, knowledge sharing, and shared responsibility.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully, even when decisions are difficult.

You must be close to practice and at the same time able to look up toward the service's overall development.

You do not need to know everything yourself. You must be curious, ask questions, and know when you should lead and when the employees' knowledge and initiative should have space.

Leadership responsibility in the Special Sector

You will become part of an engaged leadership team where we actively support each other and take the work environment seriously, even when it concerns the long hours of the day.

We see leadership as a special professional discipline. You will have good conditions for leadership and development, including through a clear strategy, close sparring with the course supervisor and department head colleagues, and ongoing competence development.

And we give you a thorough onboarding. Before your first day, you will receive a plan for your onboarding, and you will also be assigned a mentor so you get off to a good start.
