About the job

Would you like to help shape our new school – close to children, staff and everyday life?

Would you like to be a visible and present leader who can listen, sense the organization and act when required?

Then it might be you we are looking for.

Birkholmskolen became an autonomous school on 1 August 2026, and we are in the process of creating our own clear identity, culture and direction. We are a two-track school from 0-9th grade, and we stand on a strong foundation with engaged staff, good relationships and children who want to learn.

We are seeking a head of department with responsibility for SFO and grades 0-4, who would like to become a close and important part of our leadership team.

A well-functioning department with strong staff

We have a well-functioning and engaged staff group, who every day work to create good learning and development opportunities for our children.

We have staff who want their work, each other and our school, and who want to develop practices together.

We also have children who want to learn and who need clear, present and engaged adults around them.

As head of department you will be a part of an organization where there is already a lot to build on – and where there is also room for you to put your own mark.

We are looking for a leader who can sense, listen and act

For us, good leadership means both being close to people and being able to set a clear direction.

We therefore seek a leader who can sense the organization, listen to the staff and be curious about what happens in daily life – but who at the same time is decisive and not afraid to make decisions.

You should be able to stay calm in challenges, even when there is no ready-made solution, and you should want to help develop the school while solving the concrete tasks ahead.

You should not be afraid to get your hands dirty. We believe that good leadership also takes place on the floor together with staff and children.

Your tasks as head of department

As head of department you will be responsible for

  • the daily management of SFO and grades 0-4
  • close follow-up on the children's well-being, learning and development
  • staff management and the professional development of employees
  • the collaboration between the school and the SFO
  • a close and trusting collaboration with parents
  • student matters and collaboration with relevant professionals and partners
  • to support the school's shared pedagogical and didactic direction
  • to stay close to staff practice while ensuring direction and development

We are looking for

We are looking for you who

  • is a present, clear and relationship-building leader
  • can listen and be curious, but also translate decisions into practice
  • has an eye for both the individual and the organization as a whole
  • trives in a daily life that includes operations, development and unforeseen tasks
  • can create overview and structure
  • dare to stand up for decisions and have the difficult conversations when necessary
  • can create followership and at the same time set a clear direction
  • wants to be close to practice and the staff
  • sees opportunities rather than limitations
  • works systematically with student matters and ensures progression, documentation and follow-up
  • can collaborate with e.g. PPR, BUR and other relevant professionals
  • has an eye for employees' competencies and can help develop them

We offer

  • a exciting opportunity to become part of Birkholmskolen as a new autonomous school
  • a well-functioning SFO and lower primary
  • an engaged and ambitious staff
  • children who want to learn and develop
  • a close collaboration with the school leader and the rest of the management
  • the opportunity to shape the ongoing development of the school
  • a leadership role close to both children, staff and practice
  • a school where we have ambitions and believe that development is created together

Do you want to become a part of Birkholmskolen?

If you can see yourself as a leader who listens, senses, challenges, develops and acts, we would very much like to hear from you.

We encourage you to visit the school, meet us and experience everyday life before you apply.
